Clayton Oliver's goal

Post: # 1669560Post saint64 »

Great goal, but does Anyone else think that this hit the post? On the slo mo it actually looks like it brushed the first goal post and then deflected off the second. Weird. Is it just an optical illusion? It looked like the Melbourne players celebrated quickly to influence the goal umpire's call.

From the description it sounds like the goal that Lou Richards talked about when he kicked it from such a tight angle that the ball got stuck between both goal posts.

I'll drink to that.

There were a couple of other goal decisions that looked worthy of a review.
One of our shots was called touched on the line and one of their shots touched near the line was called a goal. Both looked to be close calls but neither was reviewed to check.
I understand goals are checked upstairs before the ball is bounced in the middle, but the point was kicked in almost immediately.

That one of ours that was called touch,
the TV replay showed the BlueBagger had both hands around the pill by the time it reached the line, and the ump got it right.
It wasn't like a deflection, it was actually in his hands!
We won the game. Move on

I may be wrong but there may be a net just behind the goals that gave the said illusion.

What is a gret comment? Is it like Shane Savage being the best kick in the COMPETION? Or NZ making us the greatest club in Australia? Or we'll get 15000 NZ members, when we can't get a few thousand of them to pay to get into a game. You're really clutching at straws, aren't you? Is that the best you've got? Sorry, I shouldn't even pose the question. That clearly is the best you've got. It wasn't a comment, either. Like the rest of the forum, I'm laughing at you, not with you. I've never seen someone embarrass themselves so much every time they post. Never bring a knife to a gun fight, sonny.

I watched it about a dozen times,
and it actually hit the first post, and accelerated,
hit the other post, and the spin direction changed.
On my first viewing, I saw the acceleration,
but kept repeating to confirm that I hadn't imagined it.

The goal ump was moving quickly towards the ball as it came through, so he wouldn't have noticed the touch on the post.
It's like a cricketer, batting, who must keep their head as still as possible while watching the ball.

I think the technician must have changed the slow mo speed after it hit the first post for some reason (which suggests to me that that same technician probably noticed the ball hitting the posts). I can't see how the ball could have actually accelerated if it only flicked the first post, but I'm no expert. Weird.

I thought they reviewed every goal while the ball was going back to the centre?

A spinning football striking a post will accelerate because the energy of the spin is transferred to the ball's speed.

The impact increases the speed.
Like a cricket ball spinning at high rpm, hitting a spot on a pitch, will accelerate.
