Re: Bruce Webster Wright for Savage Minch DMac
How on earth does Nathan Wright get a game before Darren Minchington? How?
Minchington has everything Wright has - speed, toughness, pressure, pops up for goals - plus he has far better disposal and far better crumbing ability, as well as being a good clearance player (albeit at VFL level).
I generally trust the selection from a structural perspective, but I really don't get how Wright gets a game before Minchington. This is one personnel decision that I just don't see the sense in.

Wright only averages 10 touches in a game.carn_sainter wrote:How on earth does Nathan Wright get a game before Darren Minchington? How?

12 against Giants, and only 8 in his other game this year.
Strangely, back in 2013, he got 22 against GWS as his career high.
He might get 1 or 2 frantic goals, but I suppose the coaches value his pressure acts
over and above Meatball's higher disposal count.
I am so confused, really

Wright (and an in form Weller) is critical for our forward structure. Without them, we struggle to trap it in the forward line.
2 goals, 7-8 forward 50 tackles, and 2 score assists - that's what i'm after from Wright. If that comes from 4 possessions or 40, I don't care.

I would suggest that both Savage and Minchington have had their last chances at St Kilda.
Both have had ample opportunities over years and have failed to consolidate

Hickey is the emergency who has travelled which seems an unusual choice.

Re: Bruce Webster Wright for Savage Minch DMac
Agree with comments about Wright over Minchington - I go further and include Savage as well, and maybe McKenzie too. Wright's stats don't justify his selection over the other 3. In his 5th season, Wright has played just 32 games and is obviously not in the team's best 22.....don't understand why he is still given chances to prove himself at senior level.
I also don't rate Geary over Savage, but as he is skipper he remains "untouchable" and whilst I'll probably be howled down over that comment, I still consider that he is not qualified to hold that important position. Reason? Geary may be a honest toiler, he is only an "average" player and lacks the on-field "lead by example" skills such as Riewoldt, and Sellwood. Geary is a bit like North's Andrew Swallow, who was a dismal failure as captain and was eventually replaced by Jack Ziebel. I like to think that at season's end the club will replace him with a new generation leader.

and I will be joining you in the barbeque shortly,
because I agree with you 100%
except...remember the leadership group picks the skipper from their ranks, and the club signs off on it.
The only good thing Geary has done this year was the public actions on Marc Whinger Murphy

Re: Bruce Webster Wright for Savage Minch DMac
So you prefer Savage against Betts then Geary? We could try that if we want to lose by 120 points. As for lacking 'lead by example stuff' Geary has the guts to put his head over the ball in order to save a goal (refer to the Patton tackle from earlier this year, or the game saving spoil against Essendon last year), not many players have that. Nathan weight has it, but Savage doesn't.Sanctorum wrote:Agree with comments about Wright over Minchington - I go further and include Savage as well, and maybe McKenzie too. Minch may touch the ball more, but Wright can pull goals out of nothing and has more speed and pressure acts, I think we might play him as a shutdown for someone like Douglas

Re: Bruce Webster Wright for Savage Minch DMac
Wright would only be getting a game to lock down on Adelaide running half back. Agree with above his VFL form hasnt warranted a recall so why not try someone in that role who has earnt the chance. Richo is very much like RL with his approach to team selections and lack of flexibility.

Re: Bruce Webster Wright for Savage Minch DMac
I dont mind the changes. I think Wright has genuine pace and does cause turnovers.
Obviously he needs to also show he can get over 15 disposals if he wants to actually stay in regularly.
As discussed above by others - Weller needs to stop trying to be a glamour boy goal kicker and start being a blue collar working class player because that is what he is.
If he continues trying for the 'Johnny Fly-Bys' and being hungry for goal all day then he should get some time at Sandy to wake up to himself.

Wright does so much running as defensive forward.
Alot goes unnoticed but he does get to those contests and cracks in.

and stop that silly "Mav's World" which takes too much of his time in filming and editing,
it's an unwelcome distraction. It's far too self-indulgent.

Cast your mind back, he got dropped, and his direct opponent- Liam Jones- was called BOG by the AFL website.
15 marks and 26 disposals. Josh got one goal early and that was it.

Yeah, well you watch then, if/when St.Kilda drop out of the finals race, Mav will go in for ankle surgery, so, poor leadership to play injured?????WellardSaint wrote:Bwoose is in the leadership group.
