Worst StKilda team in 15 years
Hate to say it but this team is on the nose big time.
* Poor Skill level
* Coaching capability - Plan B??
* Game style - how much handballing FFS!!
* Lack of speed / run and carry
When you add all that our performance should not be unexpected.
Memo to recruiters - don't go for free agents, our window is years away.
Recruit the best talent, speed and skill.

Looking forward to the coach's spin video in a couple of hours.

This is non competitive... this year we were going to not have performances like this
Increased midfield depth
Back line pillars
Potent forward line
Piss off...
We are
Steven and Ross having a crack
Gilbert trying his guts out
And that's about it

The club was positive Paddy, Billings, Weller, Longer and others were at AFL standard, unfortunately some of these players are not in that space, that is not pleasing.
Whilst we are shite the supporters, members, need to stay strong.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Worst StKilda team in 15 years
So here's the thing right. By some miracle, is it possible that with Rooy and Joey and Gilbo and Gears and one or two changes to this playing list, for this team to be pushing for a top 6 tilt and going deep into a finals series in 2018?
So realistically, if we are 2-3 years away, and we are 6-7 players away, shouldn't we bite the bullet and ask Rooy and Joey to retire this year?

Very good point. Joey is a list clogger, I don't care about his 20+ touches, he doesn't offer any pressure at all. He's holding back a guy from Zebs.Scollop wrote:So here's the thing right. Rooey should hang em up end of this year.
We can't just top-up with a couple of mids and think it's all sweet.
Tonight showed just how far off we are.

Re: Worst StKilda team in 15 years
For most of last night's game we didn't have a forward line at all. Paddy, Bruce and Membrey aren't the best forward targets in the world, but they aren't the worst either. But they're no good at all if they spend half the game clogging the midfield.Wayne42 wrote:We don't have an AFL forward line, unfortunately.
The structure was a mess last night. Maybe we're a few quality players short of a top side, but we've got the cattle to play much better than that.
We've also got better cattle than Wright, Minchington and Lonie. Please Richo, could we have just one game without any of these three plodders in the side? Just for me?

Re: Worst StKilda team in 15 years
It's pretty hard to argue with this. I came to this conclusion half way through the 3rd quarter watching the Dogs game at the ground. Having watched the way Roo run over the past 14 years - he's simply going to now hold back the young forward from developing as he drags his man to contests and stuffs up their leading patterns.WellardSaint wrote:Very good point. I've been reasonably happy with Paddy's effort and aptitude over the past two games - he does show a bit. But he'll not develop any sort of system/chemistry with Bruce and Membrey if he's not given the chance to.
And yeah - Joey .... one season too many. It's time.

It's nice to finally go to a game and see what's happenning off the ball. Joey was running to the right spots and giving direction... we need more "Joey brains" out there that's for sure.

Re: Worst StKilda team in 15 years
As long as we have so many players who are ordinary by foot, we'll never improve. Seriously, how many players do we have who hurt the opposition by foot? Maybe Billings, Gresham, Robbo and Ross? None of them elite either. More like good. Even our best player, Stuv, is nowhere elite with his disposal. Remember when we had Goddard, Dal Santo, Hayes, Guerra, Harvey, Fisher, Jones? Those players were what was required. The current mob are lucky to hit the side of a barn. As well as our number one pick, who can't kick straight for goal. What hope do we have? The coach can't kick it for them.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!
