That 2nd Quarter vs Richmond
Wow, that was blistering stuff. One of the best quarters I've seen by any St Kilda team. 9 goals to 0 in setting up a very important win. Of course it all started with a rare Billy Longer goal!
We were ruthless and made Richmond pay for just about every mistake they committed. I just loved the intensity and the level of skill displayed. Fantastic stuff and a great sign that this current team has some real potential.

Properly unbelievable. I couldn't believe it.
I enjoyed Hardwick's post match press conference. He really summed up well how we played. We even went coast to coast from a kick-in, so good was our ball movement. It was a 10/10 quarter.

Such a great night at the footy. I'd almost lost my voice at half time I was cheering so much!

I was struggling at quarter time, by half time I was shot! As an interstate member, I'm pretty glad to have picked that game to come down for!!prwilkinson wrote:Such a great night at the footy. I'd almost lost my voice at half time I was cheering so much!

Was one of the more pleasing halfs at the footy I can remember . Reminded me of a game against Carlton at princes park in 03 we lead by a similar margin at half time.

Re: That 2nd Quarter vs Richmond
The ceiling for our best football has just been raised and a massive win..
So clean, ferocious attack on the footy and kicked straight for a change.
There is a swag of players trying to get in now, play a poor game at your own peril.

Would love to know when we last scored 9.5 in a quarter.
Must be back in 2009-10 era.
We have not put a side to the torch like that for a long time.

Re: That 2nd Quarter vs Richmond
Absolutely thrilling stuff. Can't remember seeing a team given such a shellacking.
We kicked 9 goals in the 2nd quarter against Brisbane in 2005, and 8 in the last quarter (Milne 11 goals straight, but also Roo kicked 6.4).
But this game reminded me of the West Coast game in 2003. We had been badly beaten in the West early in the season and weren't expected to win. By half time we'd kicked something like 9 of the first 11 goals, and ended up winning by 61 points (10.1).
But there was something special about Saturday night. I remarked to a guy next to me that it was the sort of thrashing a team might not recover from.

Couldn't agree more with you Superboot! I vividly remember that West Coast game, Sunday arvo, roof open, blazing sunshine and Crippas last game for us. ( he scored too! ) We also saw a great game (V North Melbourne) when we blitzed our opponents in a first quarter that saw us ahead by in excess of seven goals. North were finals-bound, and the extent to which they were rattled was illustrated by their coach Dean Laidley being involved in an ugly spat with a North "supporter" on his way to the 1/4 time huddle. North came back at us in the second half and actually hit the front with only minutes remaining, THEN, enter Hamill-Harvey-Gehrig! A five point win to US!
2017 has seen SO many parallels (IMHO) to the "breakout" season of 2003. If my (fading?) memory serves me correctly, that season saw us inflict a huge pasting on Richmond, coincidentally in another HUGE evening for Saints fans, the final game of Nathan Burke. We followed this up with delivering a 90-odd point pasting of Carlscum (at Optus schitthole) big wins on big occasions can be a springboard for even greater achievements.
Naturally, I'm hoping for history to repeat itself, with a SLIGHT amendment to the script which sees us get to lift the flag!

I planned my holiday based on the GC game so I missed it.
I thought we were due for a game like that where it all comes together.
Typical

Commiserations SaintPav. IF it makes you feel any better, I missed THAT game against the Bulldogs! The great comeback game! While our boys were coming back from a 54 point deficit, I was on the Sorrento-Queenscliff ferry with my in laws!

I like the breakout idea, Jiggs. I came away from the ground on Saturday feeling as if the team had come of age, as they say.thejiggingsaint wrote:Couldn't agree more with you Superboot! I liked the look of Long, by the way. Did a few classy little things and looked like a player.

Turned the radio off at half time.
Went down to the pub after game was finished, ordered a beer, sat down and thought I better check the scores on my phone.
Brilliant

Jonathan Broown said it was the best half (not just second) of footy by any team he has seen this year.

We didn't wear red white and black that day, either. Yellow?jonesy wrote:Was one of the more pleasing halfs at the footy I can remember . Reminded me of a game against Carlton at princes park in 03 we lead by a similar margin at half time.
