Rooey's Monumental and Courageous Mark
The over the shoulder, running and leaping with the flight of the ball mark was a breathtaking moment in 2004, and one of the greats for the highlights reel of a wonderful career.
It's a shame the footage of it hasn't been documented online in higher resolution. Hope the club amends this soon.

Greatest mark in AFL history.
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

Mark Robinson was thinking along the same lines on AFL 360 tonight. I don't deny it was one of the greatest marks of all time; there have probably been greater.
But when the talk becomes the most courageous marks of all time - no contest, really! One photo has captured a 333 game career.

Need a statue of this. One of the greatest moments in afl ever.

I probably watched this 100 times over the years. But today was the first time I realised he was close enough to Harvey to call for the handball before charging down the ground.

Despite being someone who only gets to about two games a year on average, I was lucky enough to be at the SCG that day to see that mark: a highlight in an otherwise lousy afternoon.
In many respects, the footage doesn't capture how spectacular the mark was live. It was truly a superhuman effort.
It's so hard to come to terms with the fact that, in a few weeks time, we will be forever denied another such sight. Because I don't think they'll ever make another one.

Almost killed Milney too, I would hate to see Roo running back towards me in a marking contest with eyes only for the ball.

Direct line of sight as roo ran away from us.
I was pissed at the result though. won the previous 10 games, we had.

Re: Rooey's Monumental and Courageous Mark
Bloody Shytney flooded the ground in more ways than one that afternoon. Or should I say Floodney! Dirty dogs. That shot of Paul Roos pumping his fist near the end of the game still irritates me, as though he hated St Kilda with a passion and felt particularly vincated in getting his team to inflict our first loss. It would certainly appear evident that he hates us these days. I'm glad we at least got the last laugh over them that year when we met them in the finals.saynta wrote:meher baba wrote:Despite being someone who only gets to about two games a year on average, I was lucky enough to be at the SCG that day to see that mark: a highlight in an otherwise lousy afternoon.
