Re: Todd Goldstein
So we refused to trade an under performing Billings to Essendon for a 25YO gun key Back but we will trade him as he is rapidly heading toward A grade territory for a 29 YO Ruckman who is spending time in the reserves.
Yep, I'm sure we told them to go JUMP, pardon the David-Lee reference.

Re: Todd Goldstein
This is a crazy rumour. If a Billings-Goldstein trade were actually to occur, it would spark a members' revolt and the entire board would be at risk of being unseated.
Even if someone at the club thinks it's a good idea, I would be extremely surprised if Billings would want to go to the Roos, who are a team of ageing mediocrities that looks set for a period of 2-3 years at the bottom of the table. If the Saints truly wanted to trade Billings, I reckon a dozen other clubs would be interested, including the likes of the Crows, Port, Swans, Tigers, Pies, Dogs, Hawks and Carlton: all of whom look far more likely to play finals football in the next few years than the Roos.
The only way this scenario works if it is part of some complex deal that ends up getting Kelly to our club. But would Kelly so desperately want to go to the Roos - with their poor prospects - that we have had to buy them off with Billings? Surely not?

Re: Todd Goldstein
If Billings kicked straight he would be considered elite (19.29 this year) as he averaging over 28 disposals a game. If his improvement keeps going he will be in Brownlow contention next year or the year after.
Very disappointed if we trade this future absolute star.
Goldfish is finished. Game has moved on. We have enough ruckman playing for the Zebras. Somewhere along the way Hickey / Longer will do enough to hold the Ruck position which is quickly becoming a dispensable position.

Norf should've traded Goldstein last year when he still had some value. Right now, you wouldn't get jack for him!
I think you're pretty tough, don't I?

If we were forced by Billings demanding a trade, I would want Ben Brown and nobody else.longtimesaint wrote:There's no one at North we would consider trading JB for.
Goldstein might be worth a second round pick.
However I can't imagine anyone wanting to be traded to Norf except for $1 million+ for 10 years.

Re: Todd Goldstein
Heard a rumour not long ago, AND I REPEAT A RUMOUR.
That the rest of the playing group of North have zero respect for the guy, due to something personal that happened.
Some players demanding he is moved on out of the club next year!
Now I don't know what happened but I have heard his marriage has recently broken down too, so could be something to do with that.
This has come from a supporter who has probably read something from the equivalent Kanga's forum and therefore most likely 100% not true.

Why would we trade our best player, Billings?? Why why why?
That would be madness.

I don't think a player for Goldie will work...how about round 4 or 5 pick. I trust Billy and Hickey to both rise to the role.

Re: Todd Goldstein
Well we just saw Billy vs Goldy.
Billy clearly outpointed him in the ruckwork. Goldy beat him around the ground.
Let's hope we can improve Billy's tank and ability to take marks and get the contests around the ground more.
Certainly Goldy would not be an upgrade for 2018.
Besides it is midfield class, midfield class, and midfield class that we need to address. Just look at the difference the svelte Sinclair is making and then imagine what a difference Kelly would make to us.

Re: Todd Goldstein
From where I sat the 2 from NM broke even or were slightly ahead in the ruck contests, generally there was no advantage won although both sides had a couple taps to advantage
The NM back up was able to play forward
Goldstein until departing the game had a clear advantage around the ground and was the catalyst for NM's start to the third quarter
The problem with Longer was that even when he was in a marking contest the ball hits his hands and spills - putting the ball in contest
One mark says it all
So we need ruck support - and the only prospect on our List is Hickey who had 19 disposals in the VFL noting a shoulder problem had him off the ground (12 kicks, 7 handballs, 5 marks and 19 hitouts sharung tuck duties with Holmes
VFL is VFL but we need 2016 Hickey
I do not wear the 3rd up argument because there is no third up in the centre square where Hickey gave our mids some arm chair service and won clearances himself
The question is Hickey's fitness noting his knee problems and now a shoulder - and games missed in 2017
With Longer what we see is what we get - and if he can not hold the ball when it hits his hands there is generally no improvement in prospect From my observations clean hands are clean hands and that is an issue in assessing talent
If there is a Ryder or a Nic-Nat out there then yes - but short of that it is Hickey with Longer as the emergency in my view
If our mid options of Armitage, Steven, Acres, Dunstan, Ross, Steele (who looked quicker on Sunday) and Freeman perform then there are Stevens, Billings, Gresham and whoever else we Draft it get then as much as we need from ruck contests will be competition so we are not dominated - then a presence around the ground including pushing forward in a minus Roo life
Goldstein?
Not required - despite marking unopposed inside the F50 and goaling and otherwise taking some grabs around the ground to be high in his side's best
Remember we rucked Jason Blake for some years
