Re: List Analysis - Average Ages & Recycled players
Teams like Carlton and St Kilda have high numbers of recycled players being offered second chances to make up for the failings of their own drafting and development programs. Other teams like Essendon and Port clearly topping up for a tilt at a flag.
Highlights what a great program Sydney must have given they are always around the mark - sure they get help from the Academy situation but still they are largely grow your own, particularly impressive when you look at the number of rookies they have developed.

Yeah must me really hard for Sydney getting 2 players in Heeney and Mills that were rated top 3 in the draft as late first rounders.Zed wrote:Teams like Carlton and St Kilda have high numbers of recycled players being offered second chances to make up for the failings of their own drafting and development programs. And in terms of developing their top 3 picks, which club has done a better job - Sydney with Mills and Heeney or us with Paddy and Billings ?.CURLY wrote:Yeah must me really hard for Sydney getting 2 players in Heeney and Mills that were rated top 3 in the draft as late first rounders.Zed wrote:Teams like Carlton and St Kilda have high numbers of recycled players being offered second chances to make up for the failings of their own drafting and development programs. Have a look at how many Ex-rookies are part of their best 22 compared to us and tell me they don’t have a better eye for talent and a better program for developing talent.

Jake Lloyd - Rookie 15
George Hewett - Pick 32 ND
Tom Papley - Rookie 12

Sydney are the AFL so of course they set-up to succeed, their development & recruitment teams would be absolutely stacked.Zed wrote:And in terms of developing their top 3 picks, which club has done a better job - Sydney with Mills and Heeney or us with Paddy and Billings ?.CURLY wrote:Yeah must me really hard for Sydney getting 2 players in Heeney and Mills that were rated top 3 in the draft as late first rounders.Zed wrote:Teams like Carlton and St Kilda have high numbers of recycled players being offered second chances to make up for the failings of their own drafting and development programs. Throw in the Kieren Jack draft tampering, Hall's acquittal, Tippett & Franklin signing on as free agents when they had an extra million in cap space… miracles do happen.

I read that, but then I opened the link.Zed wrote:Teams like Carlton and St Kilda have high numbers of recycled players.
Port Adelaide 13
STK
St Kilda 13
COLL
Collingwood 12
MELB
Melbourne 12
BL
Brisbane Lions 11
ESS
Essendon 11
GWS
Greater Western Sydney 11
HAW
Hawthorn 11
ADEL
Adelaide 10
GEEL
Geelong 10
GCFC
Gold Coast 10
So compared to most clubs we do not really have a high number. Carlton at 20 is really the outlier there.
With greater player mobility, having a significant number of players on your list who have played elsewhere is really just the new normal.

Every club has a list like yours above they just don't have gifts like Franklin Heeney and Mills. Put those three in StKildas side and we'd be in Sydney's position.Con Gorozidis wrote:Heath Grundy - 42 Rookie draftCURLY wrote:Yeah must me really hard for Sydney getting 2 players in Heeney and Mills that were rated top 3 in the draft as late first rounders.Zed wrote:Teams like Carlton and St Kilda have high numbers of recycled players being offered second chances to make up for the failings of their own drafting and development programs. Yeah handing sides that finish top two the best rated kids the following year sounds legit and fair to the clubs with out access to this.Con Gorozidis wrote:Yes Curly.CURLY wrote:Every club has a list like yours above they just don't have gifts like Franklin Heeney and Mills. Re: List Analysis - Average Ages & Recycled players
The AFL isn’t rigged against the Saints but there is no doubt that they favour particular outcomes... especially those that tend to earn them stronger financial returns.
One of the reasons the Saints never a major rub of green is that their is little incentive in our success for them compared to other clubs.
You only have to look at the draw or the fact that Barry Hall played in a GF a week after punching someone to see that

Re: List Analysis - Average Ages & Recycled players
Correct. How the AFL can sit back and give hand outs to particular clubs to keep them strong so they dont lose supporters is the highest form of corruption. Why should a Sydney supporter receive more enjoyment than a StKilda supporter?skeptic wrote:The AFL isn’t rigged against the Saints but there is no doubt that they favour particular outcomes... especially those that tend to earn them stronger financial returns.
