Coaching Tactics
There are many issues after yesterday, Elshaug has been put under the spotlight for his work especially the 2012 & 2014 Drafts as showing many misses.
My mail is his contract wont be renewed but again he was performing 2 roles due to being under resourced.
There are non negotiables such as effort and attitude which were not an acceptable level yesterday but let us go to tactics for a second shall we.
What style does an AR team display?
Whats its mantra?
Defensive structures were abysmal yesterday...
How many times did we see the ball get past a line of Saints players at a contest for 3/4 North players on their own able to link up with an easy and clear run at our goal with normally a 4 or5 versus 2 situation arising where the player either runs into goal and scores or handballs over the last player for an easy goal?
How many times did the ball get switched in our forward 50 and players were queuing up on the other side of the ground with easy marks or hand balls?
The forward line looked dysfunctional as well. Timing of leads all over the place, wrong players at the apex of the square leading out, it was a shambles.
Working the ball out of defence was comedy hour....
The forward press was a joke....
A Press only works when the whole chain of players move at the same time and press against every option to squeeze the ball carrier to panic and cough up the ball.
Every time there was a link in the chain that was not pressed and they had an outlet out which is worse when you press unsuccessfully because then half your team is committed
forward of the ball and you get caught out. Its better to not press at all and flood deep and hit on the break than to press spasmodically.
Ross Lyon teams never allowed teams out they got strangled.
Yesterday was a mess against a bottom 4 team, what will happen next week is anyone's guess.

He has had mixed results....magnifisaint wrote:Elshaugh should be sacked immediately. Why wait?
Mc Cartin, Goddard, Mc kenzie, Long all picked in the top 25.
The 2012 draft a disaster, only White still on the list the rest are gone.
He managed some reasonable wins but he has had some high pick misses.

Re: Coaching Tactics
Playing Armo ahead of Dunny and Brown ahead of Austin strikes me as ultra conservative.
