Sam Gilbert
He's the fickle supporter's favourite whipping boy, but at least he'll give us 100% week in, week out.
Surely, he has got to come into the side after the Good Friday capitulation?

Re: Sam Gilbert
Nope. Nope, and nope.
I don't give a rats tossbag if he gives 100%. We have enough players in this team capable of turning the ball over. We don't need any more.
We are going to be 1-4 in three weeks time, and likely 1-6 a fortnight later. Write this season off as a learning experience for the young players and get games into them.
Gilbert won't be a factor when we are contending again. Shouldn't be in there now.

Yeah, not sure bringing Gilbo back is going to help with our terrible disposal problem...

Re: Sam Gilbert
He'll definitely help in terms of Adelaide forwards not getting clean, uncontested possession of the ball, which is his strength...only bringing in White will improve disposal efficiency on our backline, if the current back 6 can't get their act together. Plus, he's a better option as a back up ruck than anyone...the idea of throwing Marshall in at this stage is giving me Tom Lynch flashbacks.The_Dud wrote:Yeah, not sure bringing Gilbo back is going to help with our terrible disposal problem...

The stark reality is that we are a bottom six team. Our focus this season will now need to shift to development of the half backs we've recruited. Gilbert will add no value to our teams objectives...Except to play at Sandy in a development/mentoring role.

In this age of virtue signalling, why hasn't there howls of protest from the left directed towards Clarkson and the Hawks for their discrimination against footballers who can't hit targets.

Re: Sam Gilbert
Bump
Last year after some debate and after the fact that we'd lost the experience of Roo, Joey and Dempster, Sam was given a 1 year deal for 2018. In June this year, Sam had openly discussed that he wanted to play on into 2019. Nothing official yet from the club, but I wouldn't be expecting Lethlean and his new team to be offering Gilbo another contract.
Hopefully Sam has a good farewell game this week and well done on a fantastic career

Hope he played his farewell game last week. He cost us the win!

Re: Sam Gilbert
In a team game and with 100's or possibly 1000's of different scenarios, only 1 player cost us the win?

I was happy to see him in the team as a fall back this year...whoever signed him up for a 91 year contract extension last year deserves the chop though!Scollop wrote: ↑Fri 24 Aug 2018 12:08pm Bump

He missed a sitter and kicked it out on the full four times in the last quarter!

that's a lot, even for him !!
I can't remember those ones.
I was at the Perth game where he tackled a Docker in the fwd pocket, and where the Saints were sitting, we had the best view of him lining up, he was stood in between the posts, and we all stood and roared as it left his boot, before it had gone thru.
As a Perth-based Saint, I cherish those things because we don't see much live at all.
A real Sainter will pledge allegiance to the ❤ and despise the Pies, the Blues, and the Injectors.

Re: Sam Gilbert
Either you forgot to take your meds lately or you are making things up? I remember 2 out on the full. I can start highlighting some of Seb Ross's errors or Jack Steven's errors in the last quarter but what's the point?Bernard Shakey wrote: ↑Fri 24 Aug 2018 1:31pmHe missed a sitter and kicked it out on the full four times in the last quarter!
I thought we played well as a team and they had Gunston and Burgoyne in the last quarter who saved them. If we had that sort of class to help out all over the ground we may have beaten them by 5 goals.

Surely this is his farewell game and absolutely deserves it, he has never been a favourite of mine but I could never ever doubt his commitment to the club.
Thanks Gilbo

Re: Sam Gilbert
His attributes are that he combines height with agility and good pace. He can, therefore, match up with a number of forwards. His deficiencies are his skills. His kicking style is such that it is a matter of luck whether he connects properly with the ball. If he does, then it can go a long way if not straight. If he doesn't, it can go anywhere, perhaps straight to the opposition. His over head marking has never been confident. He, like many others, had a great year in 2009. His errors were minimised. In 2010, he made mistakes in the two games that mattered - in GF1, a 15 m mis-kick that should have gone to Nick R's hands went to his feet and a crucial turnover occurred. In GF2, he had three chances to goal in the first 5 minutes of the third quarter - all missed. To be fair, we were never going to win that game once Michael Gardiner tore his hamstrung in the previous match. We won the hit outs in GF1 but were smashed in GF2.
