GWS- our Outlier?
Most teams seem to have an opponent where logic does not come into the match result.
Recently with the Saints this seems to have been GWS despite their having a clear edge in talent.
Last game:
Team Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Final
St Kilda 2.2 5.8 6.12 10.13 73
GWS 2.5 4.9 7.15 9.19 73
Last year:
Team Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Final
St Kilda 2.4 6.7 10.9 16.12 108
GWS 4.2 7.6 11.10 12.13 85
So I look forward to this weeks game with a tad more optimism (well I am a life long St Kilda tragic after all!) than I might otherwise despite GWS's recent return to good form.
Personally I think it is because GWS tend to play a touch too arrogantly and over rely on skill rather than also discipline. This gives us a chance with our gameplan style, and also as they do not pressure us as much as they should it also tends to mean that our players do not cough up the ball as much as they are prone to.
This week I am hoping that GWS can role out their best prima donna style and thereby give our guys an opening.

Note my comments on ignoring logic and being a St Kilda tragic
Just hoping for a competitive game....

Re: GWS- our Outlier?
Maybe analyse the timing of those games.
Everybody was beating GWS early this year.
Could be just dumb luck on timing.
Let's see how we go this week.

Re: GWS- our Outlier?
On weekend form they will smash us. I see them as a premiership threat and they will see us as four points for the taking.

Re: GWS- our Outlier?
maybe have a look at where it is. we match them at etihad, like every other team when they're outside nsw. at spotless we'll get well beaten. as we did last time we played there

They won by just 3, 3 & 8 points in the games after losing to us. In rd 12 they lost to Carlton!
Hardly 'awesome'.

We are a danger game for them - coming back from interstate, 2 less days recovery and us coming off a bad loss with something to prove
Still can't see us winning though

The Carlton game was six weeks later. They were coming off five in a row and won the next four.Con Gorozidis wrote: ↑Mon 23 Jul 2018 11:47pmLie!Linton Lodger wrote: ↑Mon 23 Jul 2018 2:38pmGWS were in awesome form when we beat them last year.Con Gorozidis wrote: ↑Mon 23 Jul 2018 1:48pm Maybe analyse the timing of those games.

We played them R7 and they were top or at least close to it. Then they got a truckload of injuries.Con Gorozidis wrote: ↑Mon 23 Jul 2018 11:47pmLie!Linton Lodger wrote: ↑Mon 23 Jul 2018 2:38pmGWS were in awesome form when we beat them last year.Con Gorozidis wrote: ↑Mon 23 Jul 2018 1:48pm Maybe analyse the timing of those games.

Re: GWS- our Outlier?
5 games to go and that's making me a little sad, there are only 2 seasons IMO, footy season, and the other season.
Although the year hasn't gone so well I still love the game and our team, we're at different ends of the ladder but I'm looking forward to this weeks game because I think we will give em a run for their money. It's been this way for so long now I know no other way.
GO SAINTS!!!!!

So now after being called out for BS you change your story to this year?Linton Lodger wrote: ↑Tue 24 Jul 2018 8:49amWe played them R7 and they were top or at least close to it. We played them in Rd 5 actually.
They got thrashed in Rd 7,8,9 and 10.

No, we played them R7 last year and that's what I was talking about.Con Gorozidis wrote: ↑Tue 24 Jul 2018 1:29pmSo now after being called out for BS you change your story to this year?Linton Lodger wrote: ↑Tue 24 Jul 2018 8:49amWe played them R7 and they were top or at least close to it. From my earlier post: "GWS were in awesome form when we beat them last year"
They'd won their previous five in a row and then won their next 4 in succession (including Richmond & WCE in Perth) after we beat them. They subsequently had an upset loss to Carlton and then were undefeated for the subsequent 3 games before an enormous number of injuries finally slowed them down.
You really don't prepare for an argument do you? Your posts on this matter just prove you will use anything to sh*tcan the Club you support, even resorting to fiction.

Re: GWS- our Outlier?
I used to be a lot like you CM - I just find myself liking the games less (congestion, blowouts, our shite team, Richo's dribbling media performances) to the point where I often turn off or do something else with it on in the background. Our team is a hard one though - the players are all crazy brave and have a crack but I just cannot cop the beige irrelevance that our coaching team, administration and board have made us.Cairnsman wrote: ↑Tue 24 Jul 2018 9:45am 5 games to go and that's making me a little sad, there are only 2 seasons IMO, footy season, and the other season.

Re: GWS- our Outlier?
Hang tough Matty, I know there are wildly varying opinions about our future prospects but I'm choosing to believe that his year was the recession we had to have, in Keating parlance that is, anyway essentially that means I'm willing to be patient for one more season to test my fan based observations about why I think the club has struggled this season.Saintmatt wrote: ↑Tue 24 Jul 2018 3:30pmI used to be a lot like you CM - I just find myself liking the games less (congestion, blowouts, our shite team, Richo's dribbling media performances) to the point where I often turn off or do something else with it on in the background. Re: GWS- our Outlier?
Be a big effort to beat GWS this week. They are in good form and appear to have knuckled down. Saints side is one of the weakest I have ever seen. Hoping Battle and Marshall have good games. Not sure if GWS have a match for Gresh, same as we dont have one for Greene.
