Re: Target Cerra
I have heard he is possibly linked to Geelong for a deal with Tim Kelly.

This story might get legs before the end of thd year. Or are they already present.

If I was Freo I’d jump at this, Kelly is already a gun.

Re: Target Cerra
Acres and #3 & our second round next year for Cerra & #6 and Freo's second round this year (say #25).
They'd want more IMO but Acres would slot very nicely in Freo's midfield.
Thoughts???

Im not sure Acres is worth 6 & 25.
Cerra worth 3 on his own imo.
Cerra clark coff steele and greesh is actually a midfield i think we can build around....
Then use pick 6 on best kid available.

Re: Target Cerra
Acres is a known quantity.
Cerra or Hunter Clarke or Coffield may eventually reach Acres's level (they may even surpass it, but they need to reach it first, and they all have a way to go) - but there's no certainty that they will.

We get Cerra + #6 + #25 this year
We give #3 + Acres + 2nd round next year
OR
We get - Cerra + #6
We give - #3 + Acres
Doubt they'd go for it, they'd want more!
If we get #2 and they drift to #8 it might be more attractive.
The beauty with Acres is they lose the go home factor which might encourage them to pay overs.
Acres has massive upside and could be a gun, whether he reaches those heights with us is the question.
If we got Cerra and the best mid at #6 we could bring in two genuine midfielders.
Acres has the ability to be the best player on our list be he will never be a genuine high stat mid, more a rotation mid & line breaker IMO.

Re: Target Cerra
Cerra has shown more in one season than Acres showed in his first 3.
Clarke is well ahead of Acres at the same stage of their careers.
I think you are overrating Acres, I really like him and he has the star quality X factor a finals team would love come September, I just think we'd be better served with a genuine quality mid and I think Cerra will be the best of the 2017 drafted mids.

Re: Target Cerra
..or we keep #3 (who will in all likelihood become a very good player, anyway) and Acres and don't pay (or trade) overs for #6 Cerra.
Next year's #3 (in a strong draft) + Acres is a better outcome than Cerra alone.

Re: Target Cerra
The problem with this is that if GCS finish 17th, then our pick 3 becomes pick 4 as GCS will receive their FA compo pick for Lynch straight after their pick 2. Pick 4 likely means that Walsh and Rankine are gone. And then we're in the lottery for the best mid (Walsh and Rankine are likely 2 & 3 behind Lukosius). That may end up being Smith but who knows. Cerra is a known quantity.
Go you red, black & white warriors

Re: Target Cerra
If we do nothing, Saintmatt, we retain Acres, who was averaging over 23 possessions per game so far this year, and we get next year's #3 or #4.
The only scenario that would start to make any sense - if we are targeting Cerra - would be Acres + #3 for Cerra + #6.
Acres + #3 - for Cerra alone, would be giving away too much.

3 plus acres is obviously better than cerra alone.samoht wrote: ↑Tue 24 Jul 2018 4:45pm ..or we keep #3 (who will in all likelihood become a very good player, anyway) and Acres and don't pay (or trade) overs for #6 Cerra.

Aren't we saying cerra plus 6 vs 3 plus acres.

Indeed we are, con.
Apologies to joffa burns - I think I misread his bottom line trade suggestion/hypothetical (I skimmed through the posts, if truth be said).
So we are all in agreement, then (your "I'd offer 5 x $1 million + pick 3" comment was obviously said in jest).

Re: Target Cerra
King and King make far more sense for GC than Rankine and Walsh if they wind up losing Lynch and getting a compensatory pick. They've got a bunch of midfield types early in recent drafts and they've also got West Coast's first round pick and an early second round pick in this draft where they can add more midfield bodies. Not sure if Bailey Scott has nominated yet, but he's another mid type they should get relatively cheap if he picks them.
I'd say there's a decent chance the Saints get a shot at the best mid in the draft, either from getting pick 2, or from 3 talls going before our pick. My assumption is that we'd take Walsh in that scenario, which leads me to wonder which midfielder future Saintsationalists will complain we should have taken.
Yeah nah pleasing positive

Re: Target Cerra
doubt freo would do that trade (cerra & 6 for acres & 3) unless they think they can land a gun for 3 and have eyes on one already, and that cerra will head east later anyway. but if they would, be good for us.
acres is really overrated on here. decent B grade player at best. very occassional flashes of brilliance, far too occassional to think they'll become a regular occurrence.

Re: Target Cerra
No way we will trade our pick this year with talent available. Excluding unlikely results we will come 2-4 last.that will mean either pick 2,4 or 5. Lynch leaves Sun's they get picks 2&3 or 3&4 depending on where they finish. Best case we get Walsh or lukinous. Worst case we get rankine Smith or a king

Re: Target Cerra
He is contracted and have seen nothing to suggest he wants out if Perth. If he was to leave he would definitely be worth our 1st round pick. Think we are still dreaming though just like Kelly years ago.
