Two rookies to fight it out
http://www.saints.com.au/news/2018-08-0 ... -hamstrung
"Two St Kilda rookies are set to fight it out to become St Kilda’s No. 1 ruckman in the final three games of the season, with Tom Hickey expected to be sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Hickey was restricted severely after incurring damage to his left hamstring during the second quarter in Saturday night’s loss to the Western Bulldogs.
Despite playing a small part in the second half to help the Saints avoid having two players out of the match, the key tall was unable to venture far from the forward 50.
Scans today confirmed Hickey will likely miss the final three weeks of the season, leaving Rowan Marshall and Lewis Pierce to fight it out for a place in the senior side.
Nicknamed ‘The Prospect’ by his teammates, the 201cm Marshall has played a variety of positions for the Saints this year, including taking on Sam Jacobs as the stand-alone ruckman in Round 3.
He was one of the standouts against Carlton in Round 17 playing as a key forward but was originally selected by the Saints as a ruckman.
With Billy Longer sidelined with an ankle injury, forgotten big-man Lewis Pearce could also come in for his second game of AFL footy.
Pierce has become one of the VFL’s leading ruckman while playing for Frankston this season and could add to the one game he played in 2016.
In-form ruckman Tom Bellchambers is waiting for either Marshall or Pierce in what looms as a crucial match-up with the Bombers big man."
Personally. I would play both of them.
Guess our selectors aren't that adventurist though.

Battle may not come up. Marshall @ CHF and Pierce in the ruck.
Oh, and Acres wouldn't need to be the 2nd ruck.

Let's hope Richo agrees when he dominates this week's selection committee meeting.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Lewie must play the next three weeks.
Marshall also needs to play the last three this year.
They are both part of our future!

Re: Two rookies to fight it out
Acres should go back to Sandringham until he no longer shirks contests or is looking for out the back cheapies.
Just saying.

Re: Two rookies to fight it out
With Battle out then we have to play Marshall up forward and Pierce in the ruck with Marshall for the chop out. We don't have any other talls and we obviously can't go all small as we are too slow even for that.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Two rookies to fight it out
But Acres is 190cm clearly more than tall enough to dominate "shorty" Bellchambers 201cm in the ruck.

Re: Two rookies to fight it out
A unconvicted criminal by the name of Robert Walls put a young kid with no boxing skills into the ring and had the older players go one round each with him.
Made him into a punching bag.
Is that why Acres is being required to line up in the ruck ?
Just asking.

Nah, Nathan Brown should play small forward but would the AFL be offended if he went blackface ?desertsaint wrote: ↑Tue 07 Aug 2018 10:54pm acres can ruck, geary can replace battle up forward, nathan brown should take a wing, allowing dunstan a shot at the fb possie. never know if you never go.

Re: Two rookies to fight it out
If we don't play both Pierce and Marshall in all three of these games the selection panel needs to be cleaned out.
These last 3 games are about the clubs future not the future of the coach.

Re: Two rookies to fight it out
I hope they're not planning to fight it out, they should both be in the team for the rest of the season, rotating between ruck and our forward line. You'd think this would be a no-brainer, but sometimes I wonder who brings the club brain to selection.
