f*** yeah! Big day at the Saints today.

Paton looks a great draft pick and I really hope Pierce goes well.

Happy , if true. Just not at the expense of Freeman. Give the kid a run until the end of the year. Dunstan or Newnes out for Paton. Battle out for Marshall. Hickey out for Pierce (who I hope has a blinder).
And let Mav 'find some form' in the VFL.
Wouldnt mind seeing White Rice brought in for Coffy Clarke. Reckon the kids need to rest. Been a long year and need to get games into White Rice combo.

Great news.
I have been whingeing for weeks that we need to give Lewis a run before we can decide to retain/delist.

Can someone remind me, was Paton the kid we got with our 2018 second round pick?

Ben Paton was last years 4 th round pick and from all accounts is going to be a good pick.
Last years draft will be remembered as a very good year for us in a couple of seasons.

Don't broadcast that too loud on here, the drafting experts on here might have to eat some humble pie!!!!!

Good news indeed, finally after many years, some selection common sense, we aren't finals contenders so let's see how the potential new players perform. But give them more than one game please.

Paton was Pick 46, Third Round

Also if you have understood the discussion on Paton you will actually have discerned that many have been impressed with Paton and have been pushing for him to have a debut.

The main problem with last years draft was the swap of late second rounder in a weak draft last year for our second rounder in the 2018 draft which was known to be strong. There was also two 4th rounders swapped for one 4th rounder this year .

With no second or third rounder this year yes we will need some amazing selections to improve on 2017. Might have to pick up the next Judd.

Purely from a numbers game the second rounder swap was very costly. I think it netted us one of clavarino or austin..can’t remember

Too early to write these guys off but you’d want to hope at least one of them comes good given it’s essentially pick 25 odd in this years draft

One plus about all our injuries this year has been getting more games into our youngsters including more debuts.

I am very keen to see what progress Pierce has made and I am confident that Paton should go ok.

Wonder if the bring Marshall back too.

The Dons are quick and so we do need some pace and that may have helped in bringing Paton in.

How many debutants does that make it this year, does 8 sound right?

Clark
Coffield
Rice
Marshall
Freeman
Joyce
Paton
Phillips

Excluding Joyce, everyone else has given me something to get excited about and hopefully Paton is able to do the same on Friday night.

Marshall had 1 game last year, as did Battle. Plus Long looked markedly better after his 4 games last season.

So all up that gives you a large new group of very raw players.

Imagine if we didn’t have a big run of injuries this year?

We may have been sitting on 3 extra wins (still out of finals contention), but hardly any new debuts due to Krusty’s fear of the unknown.

Scary stuff.

Love that Pierce is playing...

Hate the fact that he has 3 games to prove himself when our rucks have been largely mediocre for 2 years

Looks a likely lad with some pace.

Finally!!! Hoo-bloody-ray!!!

I know that big Lou did a hammy earlier this year, but he still should have been in well before this! Lou will repay our patience! Pierce and Marshall should be our ruck/forward combo' for the rest of the year. And then, hopefully for plenty more years.

Paton has earned a spot. Give him the rest of the year also.

Now, we need to give the other Irishman his overdue debut. Connellan also gets to play out the season.

Same goes for Rice, White, Hughey and (if fit) Minch'. (There should be no probs' finding blokes to make way - unfortunately. :( )

Oh, and BAcres plays on ball!!! And to all the BAcres doubters out there, fear not, the Blake will soon be our best player.

And as correctly suggested by Rodger, Gears should play as a lock-down on the enemy's best small forward (a role in which he's as good as anyone in the comp' ) - not as loose man in defence!

Make it happen Richo'.

Glad to see the young guys getting a game. Apart from injuries, there are a few players who should be getting a trip the the VFL (Freeman not one of those)
