The Fluxed Report: The upcoming 2018 AFL Shaft Rankin

Post: # 1761085Post AeonFlux »

Ok, this is pretty simple. The hard work has been done for you. Have just finished a week locked away in a secret location in East Bentleigh with Aaron666, Rodger (swoon), Johnny and Whispering Ted.

Con sent his apologies. Would have loved to be there, but it's ben too long.
Bluthy would have loved to be there too. (Lazar sent his apologies.)
Jaxons was to join us also, til he read this post viewtopic.php?f=1&t=96429&p=1761082#p1761073 Curse you Bowey Boy!!!

This assembled anal-list Dream Team spent some time doing the ultimate YouTube assessment of the (supposedly touted as) top half dozen-odd 2018 draft picks.

But mostly, we watched funny cat videos.

The results:
Jack Luscious. (Bruce the goose MacAveney's new favourite player???)
Lightly framed.
Kicks like Farren Ray....... everything looks beautiful........... till you see where the ball ends up.
What's all the fuss about with this bloke??? :? Very disappointing. Very underwhelming.

Sam Walsh.
Clearly talented, but looks way too lightly framed to produce at AFL level.

The King(s)pins.
Also lightly framed, and therefore question marks about being able to bulk up enough. If they could, would take 'em quite a few years.
Mobile for their height., but nothing special.
Way taller than their opponents, yet, little (if any) in the way of pack marks. Also, they like the flat hands thing when trying to mark, which would (rightly) piss-off many on SS.
Woeful set shots on goal!
The next Buddy's? Whilst one couldn't rule that totally out, it's drawing a very very long straw and short bow.
They strike me as speculative/project-type players. Not what you'd be risking a top 4 pick on!

Bailey Smith.
Probably no 'x' or 'wow' factor, but that 'd be the only 'knock' on him. As close as one could get to a sure thing.

Ishe Rankin?
Yes. He bloody well is!
'X' factor! 'Wow' factor! To burn!!!
Once this bloke adjusts to the pace of the AFL - look out!!!

So, after consulting with Aaron666, Rodger, Johnny and Whispering Ted, it's clear cut...
Rankine!!!!
Smith would be a pretty damn good consolation prize.
Then... none of those others thanks. Yawn.

See, that wasn't so hard. 8-)

Rankine and/or Smith will be there come our pick 4. So yet another reason not to have blown it (and a reported ludicrous $8 million     ) on Shiel. Desperation Saints, or what??? So, thank you, thank-you, thank-you Drug-cheats! :D (Never thought we'd say that. ) You saved us from ourselves!

Worryingly though, reports from the Saint's inner sanctum suggest we might be looking a King brother... Joe.

Not sure if the Drug-cheats could keep saving us indefinitely? If we pick a King.................. it'll be Terry Wallace time again!!! :x

As for old man Hannebery (thanks Enrico :) ), why not? As long as we don't pay too much at the Shaft or the Salary Cap.

Townsend? A no brainer upgrade on Lonie.

Clarke Kent's less famous brother? Why the hatred on SS??? :? This bloke could prove a revelation for us. And won't cost anything.

As for The Chad. Incredibly talented. Could be anything. if he could just step out of his ego's shadow............

Thoughts, Saintsationalists?

Thoughts, Con?

Thoughts, Richo? (Actually. Pass.)

It's clearly obvious that the club made mistake employing a guy with zero experience in Gallagher
My vote is for the Aeon he clearly knows his stuff and puts together a good presentation
and the big plus - he's a saints man

OK

First up - amazing research. Can you join form a consortium and spill the board and takeover?

Secondly, I do still like the idea of now looking at Tom Scully, given $hiel went to the dopers.

And thirdly, what do you think of Bulldog Roughead for defence (and back up ruck), getting Longer off the books once and for all?

Apart from his obvious size, I liked Sam's work, reckon his clip was the best

Can he run out of packs like that on the big stage? Nice kick too. Looks like a skinny Lonie though

firstly Nice job on the email.
some of the clips are based on one game so not a great audit sample (not a criticism -again great post) so it can be a little misleading in saying that...

Jack Lukosious.... Cant argue he is great at getting the ball and finding space but he didn't seem to be playing as a forward, he seemed to be everywhere. That is a great sign if he is a running machine but I cant argue about his disposal efficiency, there were a lot of kicks to them/nobody/out.
Sam Walsh..... Looks classy already and can see why he is now #1. Carlton should be happy
Max King..... worried about several things. Firstly it is the Paddy concern. Easy to beat kids that are a foot shorter but what happens when you become the small kid. Secondly already done an ACL. Finally I don't want another forward who kicks 4 goals 8 behinds. Our team is filled with them and based on the trees not moving wind wasn't a factor. He is going to frustrate the hell out of us
Smith..... WOW. SO much better than expected. Goes in and gets his own ball, lays tackles, smooth hands and kicks goals. My only knock on him is that he is an inside mid and we don't need another
Rankin. WWOOOWW. Sold. How long was his package compared to the others and very little filler. I haven't seen goal sense like that for a long time. Milne like and accurate as well.

I would still take Lukosious only because I have seen better highlight packages and his work rate is immense. But most likely gone by pick 4
Rankin first and foremost he is x-factor. Hopefully we trade out Mav Weller which frees up #44 and that goes straight on Rankine back. The snaps from no angle were amazing and not looking at the goals as he knew where they were. Most likely wearing tri-colours next year and I am pumped. Looks ready to go day one as well.
then Sam Walsh. Yes he is an inside mid but in a year or two he will be our best by fair based on the highlights and he can kick goals adn a lot of them. Not my first choice but in saying that if we got him I wouldn't be upset
finally I would take the cougar from the zoo. Poor hand skills and will be suspended a lot but that speed! Imagine a chase down tackle, that will bring in the crowds

YouTube watching panel:
Firstly, thanks to the contributors to this thread. :D Please stay by your phones, as the committee will be seeking new members for our next anal listing and YouTube session.
- Whispering Ted has left the park, run across the freeway, and has now gone on safari up the Nile. He's finally looking for a source.
- Aaron666. If we end up picking Joe King, or his brother, or anyone else who isn't a mid fielder, or if next season Richo selects anyone in the team who is not a mid fielder, then Aaron666 has vowed to leave, and take his parents with him.
- Johnny? He was never actually with us. Wishful thinking on my part. (Sob. :( )
- And jaxons? (Still) curse you Bowey Boy.

2019 shaft player assessment updates:

'Ruckman-tall', mobile (to varying degrees), key (to varying degrees) forwards. How many would you spend a top 4 pick on?????
Franklin.
Boyd.
Paton.
Stanley.
Westoff.
Moore.
Daniher
Lobbe.
Hickey (Only included Tom to make Lazar happy. )
Wright.
Dixon.
Lynch.
Vickery.
Jenkins.
Roughhead (Dogs version).
Tippett.
Hale.
Vidovic (Gotta' keep Lazar happy - just ask Bluthy.)

The odds aren't good.

The JoeKings - not only no pack marks, but not even one broken tackle. Against school boys??? They may be taller, and they don't need IDDM as a mitigating factor, but it'd be Paddy all over again. Listen to the Saintsationalists above. Don't go (back  ) there Saintas!!!

Walsh - too lightly framed! Simply can't see the bloke being able to bulk up enough to withstand the rigours of AFL footy. It'd be Xav Clarke all over again.
"Man's ability to delude himself is infinite." ~ Kinky Friedman
Don't get caught again Sainters!

Billy Slater:
Billy Slater??? Everyone is soooooo happy. But! You haven't thought this through.

All that will happen is that Richo' will waste him, using him hopelessly out of position. (Though, at least BAcres won't have to ruck anymore. :) )

Slater??? We shoulda' gone the Honey Badger!

Thoughts, Saintsationalists?

Thoughts, Johnny?

Thoughts, Lazar?

The scuttlebut all over BF seems to be we’re into King and may look to trade out Bruce

Disaster if true IMO

feels weird to agree with skeptic but yeah I think the others on offer are way above the kings, I hope Goldcoast takes both of them as has been touted.

Fortunately a lot of the scuttlebut on BF ends up buttscuttle, let's hope this is one.

The power of the Kings remain with the whole egg, best for everyone that GC reforms it and keeps them together.

Isaac, like his namesake on the Love Boat, plays some great cameos and certainly doesn't offend. For every McLeod there's a silver Tambling.

Smith seems perfect for our future, over 6 foot, tough, tackles, great inside with excellent hands, does have pace and can kick goals. Very determined and a leader.

With Coffield training with the mids this summer will be an exciting season or two watching them develop. Add Clark to a wing and our midfield begins to take shape.

Concerned for Armitage & Dunstan, struggling to see a place for them, besides backup.

If a kid was to do a knee, pity King didn't do his in August, then pick 28 would be about right, especially as he was using our facilities anyway & sitting out a year.

Great anal-y-sis AF, look forward to the post trade / draft summary.

agree that the clips may mislead - for me Smith is the obvious standout, with daylight... the next. Rankine already has that mature body- he will not grow much more, he may build muscle mass but will not be able to break tackles like he does against boys and his speed off the line will be matched by many in the top flight. A little like Dunstan in a way. Lukosius reminds me of Jack Watts, maybe unfair as Watts is a very good kick.
