So Max King- He's a project.
So where should the expectations be set?
I've heard that it will be January at the earliest before he can commence full training due to his knee. This sucks.
When you put this together with his current weight, which is realistically around the 90kg mark. I honestly doubt that we will see him in the seniors in 2019. If we do, it will either be very late in the year, unless by some chance he comes out and dominates training and then puts more than a few outstanding games at Beach Oval.
So the work ahead-
He has a big year ahead of him....Physically.
The reports on him often mention that he has some deficiencies with his work rate and on top of that it could be said that he may not have a level of fitness that is anywhere near it. He needs to develop a tank sooner rather than later. Along with a reset of how a key forward should behave at the highest level.
Needs considerable core strength and another 5-10 kilograms added to his frame without creating such horrors as stress fractures. Too much too soon can break him. See Kosi 2001-2002.
Building that cardio level of repeat high intensity literally counteracts adding the weight to his frame. Not easy and difficult to balance. This all takes time and there is no magic pill.
He will be extremely difficult to match up due to his size. He takes the ball at its highest point and has really good leap. He will be extremely difficult to counter. One out and it will be nearly impossible. Any semblance of decent delivery and he will be effective. However due to this he is going to be monstered- double and triple teamed very, very often. And his body will be targeted as it is the easiest way to counteract. On top of this, our forward line flies in the face of the current trend of smaller front half players.... go figure.
I don't doubt that if he had not have done his knee, he would have been taken well before pick four and we have much to be excited about. If we can get this right.
However, realistically we have a project player on our hands that we will not really see until 2020 and on top of that, it could be a really slow burn on his development.

Isn't every draftee basically a 'project player' to varying degrees though?
Very, very few make a big impact in year 1.
FWIW, King has been training/rehabbing with an AFL club for months now, and looks considerably bigger than he was 6 months ago when he did his knee.

Re: So Max King- He's a project.
People forget Riewoldt did his knee in his 1st year. It actually made him a better player IMO. Same as Goddard ag an early point in his career. Petrecca did it also in his 1st year. He actually said it helped his career.
The fact King has been training at the Saints has put him in good stead already. The kid will take time but he has all the traits to be a superstar at the club he really loves.
Said it before, he is our most exciting pick since Riewoldt.

Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Lets all do our knees and become better players then....FFS, you talk some total sh*t
Speaking of my knowledge of the game which is humungous, saints may be wise to throw King once fit onto a wing where Rewoldt should have spent his last 2 years.

Stop using that very offensive term to describe the coach. You can't plead ignorance. You know what it means

You think he did an ACL in the pre season and debuted in round 15?tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Fri 23 Nov 2018 10:36am People forget Riewoldt did his knee in his 1st year. Re: So Max King- He's a project.
Ok... he hasn't been training with the Saints. He has been using the gym two days a week.
That is all.
Don't get me wrong, I reckon this bloke is a gun and could be an absolute nightmare for every single back line in the comp moving forward.
They have a lot of work to do moving forward. Get his leg right, and up his workload without breaking him.
Everyone reckons rucks take years longer to develop. How tall is this guy?

So is the length of development for the player, or the position?

Some have said that if he didn't get injured, he would have gone pick 1.

"cho" is the abbreviation, not "the cho". That's pure bulls*** and you know it. The fact that you continue to use an offensive term says a lot about you.dragit wrote: ↑Fri 23 Nov 2018 3:53pmHow dare you have a go at me after your filthy antics... keep your disgusting sexual fantasies to yourself next time, no one is interested and they are not welcome on here. And calling for a poster to be banned is a clear breach of the rules, as are your repeated long running attempts to bully me.
