Re: Marshall
Brilliant around the ground. Was smashed early in ruck contests but amazingly we were ahead in clearances.

Hitouts have little to do with clearances. Grundy dominated and they lost the clearances!BackFromUSA wrote: ↑Sun 14 Apr 2019 10:22pm Brilliant around the ground. Was smashed early in ruck contests but amazingly we were ahead in clearances.

Re: Marshall
Can't do it on his own needs a chop out & I don't mean Acres, Bruce ,Long or Kent. It's a long season & it will end up wrecking him if he has to shoulder the entire work load.

Re: Marshall
AFL site gave him 10 pressure acts, and only 1 Free Against.
What I like is how he seems to actually ruck with confidence, and not really try to wrestle, and only 1 Free might prove he's learning well.
I am happy seeing him ruck.

Re: Marshall
I watched the Sandy game before ours and I'd say Billy is a LONG way off. Not impressed.
I was thinking Marshall would be up against it next week with Gawn and Presuss but today was Big boy and Ceglar so who knows ?
Maybe Pierce in to help out.
I do know we have found our best ruck since Gardiner.
Sensational game Rohan !

And to think Richardson didn't pick him in the first game.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Marshall
Marshall looks like an oversized midfielder out there. Not a spindly unco pile of useless like most of the players we've rucked for the past 15 years.
Yeah nah pleasing positive

Re: Marshall
7 clearances.
Ben got one.
Ceglar got one.
Combined they got more than double Ro's hitouts but we won the clearances by plenty and he had a big hand in that.
He's an extra mid and is mobile as all heck. Quite seriously I have not seen a ruckman like quite like him.
He can handle the body work and is competitive, yet when the ball hits the deck he is like a cat.
The kid is a gun. Plain and simple.

lets ngive the hate richo another leg up for a fake story. Pierce was in front of him during the JLT and that was why he was picked first game.

That's what he's saying, how/why was anyone ahead if Marshall in round 1 or the jlt... from what we saw late last year and then the jlt, blind freddy coukd see Marshall should've played rd 1.saintly wrote: ↑Mon 15 Apr 2019 8:31amJacks Back wrote: ↑Sun 14 Apr 2019 11:37pm And to think Richardson didn't pick him in the first game.

Re: Marshall
Destroyed McEvoy and Ceglar. Most ruckmen try and win a hitout to then give their midfielders a chance at winning a clearance.
Marshall just wins the f**** clearance himself.
7 clearances to him, 2 to the Hawks ruckmen combined. Forget the irrelevant stat of hitouts - Marshall is the best ruck player we've had in years.
We smashed the Hawks in clearances. Marshall had FIVE score involvements.
What a gun. This guy is in the best 4 ruckmen in the league this year.

Re: Marshall
The stats on Footywire says it all....
https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/tr- ... t=TA&st=SU
Forget the comparison to Michael Gardiner, he was an import from WCE, I believe Rohan Marshall is the best ruckman developed by the Saints since Ben McEvoy and has the potential to be the best since Peter Everitt, and he's only 23 and played just 16 games. Can't wait for Max King to line up in the same team!!!

Re: Marshall
I will go way back to the 70's when we had John McIntosh. He was brilliant, kick either foot, mobile and skilful. Had he not injured his knee in the finals 1971, we would have won the premiership that year and next. Marshall has similar qualities and a wonderful kicking action. Needs a chop out however, McIntosh had both Mynott and Big Carl helping him. I don't want Marshall going down the same unfortunate injury path.bigred wrote: ↑Mon 15 Apr 2019 3:55am 7 clearances.

Re: Marshall
All this talk of Marshall needing a rest etc...just don’t get it, he’s 23 years old, not 19! We need to get as many games into him as fast as possible, so imo, unless injured, he plays every available game!
I simply cannot understand why Pierce has been unequivocally ditched after 1 x poor game and seemingly put into the not to play again barring injury basket!
This sort of selection policy on the run just stinks of knee jerk amateurism...the guy plays 1 x good game so we slap up a new contract for him, then he gets well beaten by a very good ruck in 1 game and he immediately gets dropped and banished!!
I look at how the doggies are sticking with young English in the ruck and you can just see it’s going to pay dividends, even though he’s getting a beating most weeks.
I believe Marshall is our best ruck/forward and think having a 2nd competent ruck would complement both Marshall and the next best ruck insert pierce or Longer, but to be honest Longer is beyond useless at afl level so that leaves pierce as no.2.
