Went and saw the full game.

We need to keep our expectations low on King for now. Today was his first serious hit out against men and not boys. I couldn’t have been more impressed. He flew for a ball on the wing in the first quarter and the crowd just went “whoa”!

It was like in the movie “The Blind Side” when Michael trains in front of the college scouts and they all take out their phones for what they witnessed.

Hind has something we don’t have a lot of in the seniors “run and carry”. I’d like him to have a chance soon.

Marsh was excellent down back, Joyce was very good as well as Rowe up forward today.

I have been his biggest critic, Longer won the game for Sandy today. For once he was imposing & took a couple of good grabs but most importantly found the ball around the ground.

We need a third tall forward, team selection will be very interesting this week

and that's the bottom line

Max Lynch:
Soccer makes up much of Lynch's sporting background, for he only began playing football in recent years. He arrived at the Murray Bushrangers as a bottom aged player but reaped the rewards of his hard work in his second season where he was the Bushrangers' number one ruckman. His ground skills, such as kicking and ball winning, are sound, and he is still developing his aerial work. Importantly, Lynch performed well during the finals and will benefit greatly from being a part of the AFL system
.

So Longer towelled up a young rookie ruck who has only recently switched to Aussie Rules.
Not so recently, He was drafted by Collingwood in 2016 and been named in their VFL best 2 out of 5 games this year.

Yes was drafted as a rookie in 2016 and is still a rookie. Longer id over 5 years older and was taken in 2011 and played juniors all the way through. 0 AFL games vs 66 games.

Just looked at the stats for the games. Wins few disposals and lost most ruck battles and only won more hits against guys I have never heard of (not that I follow the VFL).

It would still seem to me that he is not yet much of an opponent in the ruck and very much not around the ground.

Each to their own, can only beat your opponent, Longer is starting to get more ball around the ground, that's what some poster's wanted, now that's still not good enough, funny that.

Marshall looked very flat last night and will need help/rest very soon, end of story, with Pierce having not played for so long, it will have to be Longer.

It’s not good enough because one swallow does not make a spring.

If Billy can string together a month of games like these he deserves another chance.

As his stats have not really improved since 2015, I would think it would nearly be his last chance.

We definitely need another big body up forward (last night confirmed it for me) whether it be Marshall (which means we bring in Longer) or give Marsh another go given he possibly earned a recall with his excellent game today.

Long needs a spell and so I'd be really tempted to bring in Hind - it's like for like and he's been very consistent all year with Sandy - deserves a go

Ok after a bit more reading. Longer mainly did not play against Lynch as Lynch was knocked out:

(Edit Lynch) Knocked out in 2nd Qtr.

Longer was playing against a Kid in his I think 3rd ever game he has ever played of Aussie Rules

I was at the game, near the interchange bench. After Lynch went down, we didn't really have any talls. Had to put Tohil and also Goldy in the ruck. And in those last few minutes, every time we did the kick out, their tall players would mark and kick it back to goal
.

Concussed via an accidental Sandringham knee in a marking contest early in the second quarter. Tohill was our main ruck there after with Goldsack only giving him an occasional chop out late.

Tohill; 191 cm and 85kg.

Selected by Collingwood as an International Rookie during the 2018 off-season

The son of former Gaelic and International Rules star Anthony Tohill, who spent time with the Melbourne Football Club in the 1990s, Anton recorded excellent speed and agility results at October’s Draft Combine. He has the makings of a tall utility who will be capable at both ends of the ground, with the potential to spend time in the ruck.

So yes one can only beat your opponent, but clearly Tohill is not much of an opponent in the ruck. If Billy could not rip apart such an opponent I would be concerned.

Reading the posts Billy did not tap well to our mids.

Credit where credit is due, well done to Longer, also, Marshall looked very tired last night, I don't think he can go against Grundy by himself this week.

Will be interesting to see what happens.
Does anyone know who the Pies ruckman was?

EDIT: Ok he is M. Lynch, 56.

Does anyone know anything about him?
So Billy was playing against a 56 year old who got KO'ed in the 2nd quarter?

Lynch Jumper Number 56 was ko-ed early in the second quarter.
The young Irish International Rookie playing his third game then took over.
