What has happened to this kid?

Has anyone been watching him go around for Sandy?
Barely been mentioned this year, after a fairly solid start to his career last year?

At pick number 8, I would hope to see him performing well in the VFL.

Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to stay on my toes.

Watched sandy play last weekend against pies and I didn't notice him at all. not saying he didn't do anything but not enough to notice him. Young and Hind were visible and looked good, hunter was one of if not bog and king stood out due to it being game 1.

Sadly coffield seemed a safe pick that hasnt paid off yet. Again still a kids so not writing him off but from what I have seen not a lot to get excited about this year

Forget he is a top 10 pick. Same as Clark. These kids need to do apprenticeships. Plain and simple. Some get there quicker and some don't, no matter what pick they went. A lot of these kids that end up taking longer end up being better players than those that burst on the scene early.

Classic examples are Ross, Steven and Billings. They took 5-6 seasons to become genuinely good and consistent players.

The patient Panda always wins in the end on most occassions. Patience and perseverance is required. I understand it's a trait some humans don't have but as Saints supporters we need to be patient with some of these kids.

I just hope the club hasn't erred with it's first round draft picks from that year.
Time will tell.

Clubs go nowhere if they keep getting it wrong early in the draft.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Coff was also a bottom ager when drafted. i.e. He's actually only 5 months older than Jack Bytel who was drafted 12 months after him. In footy terms - he's a baby.

I read a post from MSG that posts here and his concern was that we might be trying to change him into a mid when he came to us as a promising HBF.

Obviously we have an abundance of HBF and a shortage of quality mids. My worry is that with the running and fitness required to be an AFL, it might actually be better for Coffield to develop his craft on a flank for now whilst he builds up.

Armitage, Dunstan, Acres, and Billing’s mentioned in various interviews that a challenge for them early on was that they really weren’t fit enough to do the work required to get better.

At the moment we have a guy like Savage slotted into the backline... maybe it’s more reasonable for Shane to make the jump into the midfield for now and let guys like Coffield and Clarke play the easier position initially

Named on a wing this week for Sandy.

Only 2 of the top 10 play regularly yet and in my opinion only Naughton has done anything substantial yet.
Plenty of role players from the draft are playing. Even Paton for us. It doesn't mean they will be better players long term.

Clubs go nowhere if they keep getting it wrong early in the draft.

The club picked those two who were universally accepted as the players who should go where they did. So no issues with the club there. The development of them however is a different debate.

They are still just a couple of kids. Coffield was a bottom ager. You can see the difference with Paton who is a year older.

Coffield looked good in his first couple of games. He has poise and skill and pace.
He just did not have the body yet to cope with playing against AFL men.
It takes a few years for that, not every kid is Tim Watson. or Sam Walsh for that matter.
Forget about him for this year and let him build his body and get used to playing with men and then he will start to show what he can do.

Yeah we’ve only missed finals for 7 consecutive seasons.

I’m happy for that to extend to 10.

Fkn spare me.

I’ve lost patience.
