Best Wins Under Richo

Post: # 1807211Post Beno88 »

There weren't many happy days, but thanks for these ones Richo.....

St Kilda’s 10 Best Wins Under Alan Richardson, in my opinion.

Round 6 2015 vs Western Bulldogs. 55 points down early in the third quarter…. the rest is history. One of the greatest comebacks of all time. A day no Saints supporter will ever forget.

Round 16 2017 vs Richmond. Easily our most complete performance in Richo’s time. We destroyed the eventual premiers by 11 goals and looked as though we’d finally arrived as a contender.

Round 14 2015 vs Essendon. It was the day Essendon fell in a heap thanks to the supplements saga, but we made sure it hurt, smacking them by a record 110 points and delivering Richo’s biggest ever win & score (162).

Round 6 2017 vs Hawthorn. We hadn’t beaten the Hawks in 8 years, and Richo had never coached a win against them, but on a sunny Saturday afternoon in Launceston we flogged them by 75 points.

Round 3 2016 vs Collingwood. It was the 50th Anniversary celebration of 1966, a rare home game at the G, beautiful and warm, and great win over a side we hadn’t knocked off since 2010.

Round 5 2014 vs Essendon. Massive underdogs against the Bombers, we delivered one of the upsets of the season to win by 16 points. Amazingly Richo had a 3-2 record after just five games at the helm.

Round 18 2014 vs Fremantle. 2nd vs last. We’d lost 11 in a row, yet somehow we came out and blew Freo apart, smashing the premiership fancies by ten goals.

Round 14 2016 vs Geelong. The Cats were sitting on top of the ladder and went in firm favourites. We got the jump early, then came back late to win a thriller by 3 points. Richo’s first and only win over the Cats.

Round 7 2017 vs GWS. Friday night footy was rare for Richo, but this night we were not only on the big stage, we knocked off the premiership favourite by 23 points.

Round 15 2018 vs Melbourne. We’d won just two games for the year, Melbourne were on their way to the finals. We played free-flowing, high-scoring footy and pinched a massive upset by 2 pts.

Honourable mentions ; the two comebacks vs the Suns, the upset wins over Essendon & Hawthorn this year, a win vs the Dees on debut in 2014, a rare victory in Perth vs Freo in 2017 and a win over the eventual premiers in 2016.

I guess it would be the win against Richmond in 2017. Gee whiz, it was all downhill after that, wasn't it?

Some great memories there.

But for every good one there was too many shockers

The Doggies in 2015 for me, surrounded by Bulldog mates giving it to me at half time & all I could say was "This will be our greatest victory." Just to make them laugh & shut them up - had a great time, we had a lot of beers!!!

How about the win over the dees at the dome where Montagna got the perfect bounce and slammed it home with seconds to go? Probably not top 10 but an honourable mention for sure.

The GWS win, the industry sat up and took notice.

The worst loss, the last 17 seconds of the Port game...a chance at finals ripped away.

So close but so far. Sums up Richo's 6 years at the helm.

Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Most of the losses....

Are very, very similar.

The problem was that once the industry took notice, they worked us out.

Cho never found a way around being worked out. That was the night Cho's career ended.

Round 18 2014 vs Fremantle. 2nd vs last. We’d lost 11 in a row, yet somehow we came out and blew Freo apart, smashing the premiership fancies by ten goals

I remember this one. It was the week Lenny Hayes announcer he was retiring at the end of the season. That was our response. I was secretly hoping half of the list would retire at the time after that.

Billy longer pointing out the scoreboard to Zac Clarke while they were wrestling was the real highlight of that match!
