Re: Injuries and Excuses?
While you say riddled with injuries they were missing about 4 from their best 22, whereas St Kilda:
Geary XXXX Webster
Battle XXXX Roberton
Steven XXXX XXXX
XXXX XXXX XXXX
XXXXX Paddy XXXX
XXXXX Hannas XXXX
XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX
EMerg: Kent Phillips XXXXX

Perhaps...but...we did import an ex-Bomber backline saviour who plastered his dial on social media with a cylindrical instrument poised next to his hooter and a line of a suspicious, white substance in front of him.

Re: Injuries and Excuses?
Look at how Hawthorn and Richmond have resurrected their seasons when they get players back.
It is a problem largely of our own doing this season though.
The club had to know Robbo and Paddy were doubtful to return and that Big Jake and Steven would be missing a large chunk of the season too before we started pre-season.
So what do we do?
We recruit two young draftees who were recovering from serious operations and were always going to be out for the whole of 2019, and Dan, who is a speculative pick at best.
We also traded our best ruckman at the time, at the expense of keeping two ruckmen who have shown themselves to be very injury prone for some time and who haven't put together long sequences of successive senior matches in the past.
When a club does those things they need everything else to go right, as you have no insurance against things going pear shaped, so losing Geary to two very serious leg injuries after only a handful of matches, Austin requiring shoulder injury (no matches), and Lonie and Webster for 8+ matches after round 6 has been an absolute disaster.
Who will be made accountable for these decisions? And where was our list manager when these choices were being made?

Re: Injuries and Excuses?
We don’t have as good a list to begin with... although we did beat them remember.
But do we have playing atm, players the ilk of;
Stringer, Sheil, Tipungwuti, Hooker, Merrett, McGrath, Saad, McKenna, Heppell, Zaharakis?

Re: Injuries and Excuses?
Essendon much further along the development cycle and as sRs pointed out, don't have anywhere near the amount of their best 22 unavailable for selection, especially kpps. sRs left out one, Lonie, this one hurt us more than we know possibly, interestingly our intensity was back last week the week he came back in. May be coincidence though. Possibly also Jake has now got a few games under his belt too.
A side like ours needs it's A graders so silly to compare us to what the bombers did last night. Adelaide are not travelling well atm.

Re: Injuries and Excuses?
Well with Paddy he was very fit and was playing well pre-season, so not sure how the club would have he would miss a large chunk of the season.samuraisaint wrote: ↑Sat 20 Jul 2019 3:43pm .

Robbo's pacemaker when off when he was going well. So while there were question marks it was expected that he would be playing.
Steven. I am not sure when his problem arose.
That leaves Jake. He was dodgey all pre-season and club made a late call to put him in for surgery.
So with 2-3 of them I do not think that the club had to know that they would miss a large chunk of the season.

Re: Injuries and Excuses?
I only left him out as I was comparing who the Dons had available last compared to we had available in our last game.HighettMan wrote: ↑Sat 20 Jul 2019 4:53pm Essendon much further along the development cycle and as sRs pointed out, don't have anywhere near the amount of their best 22 unavailable for selection, especially kpps. sRs left out one, Lonie, this one hurt us more than we know possibly, interestingly our intensity was back last week the week he came back in.
I think that any team can cover several injuries, and that it rare than any will actually have its best 22 available.
This year for example when the Tigers had a large number of players out. But now their injury list has reduced to more normal levels they have their mojo back.
This year the Saints have had the worst injury run of any team that I can recall. And yes this will have greatly affected our results this year. Possibly our % moreso than wins though.
PS: I suspect Lonie will be better for the run last game and that he will have more influence this week than last.

Re: Injuries and Excuses?
I feel like the perception of Paddy has really changed term of his injury lay off
When went doubtful top22 because of poor marking and goal conversion (fairly flattering take on a player that was heavily maligned on here) to a huge loss that really hampered us this year.

However his pre-season form was quite good this year.

There’s been excuses for every win we’ve had as well.
Essendon out of form
Hawthorn injuries
Umpires etc.

Not directed specifically at you SrS, but rather something that’s bobbed on this forum a bit as of late.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Sat 20 Jul 2019 6:44pmHuge loss is a bit strong.skeptic wrote: ↑Sat 20 Jul 2019 6:34pm I feel like the perception of Paddy has really changed term of his injury lay off

When it comes to our major losses for the year... Steven has been a fatal loss for 2019 as has Roberton. Carlisle was a big loss too.
Geary is not nearly the same caliber and hardly irreplaceable and Webster is and always has been highly inconsistent and yet to become the player we hope he can be.
Hannebery seems at this point unlikely to ever again be the player he was and Paddy + Phillip and Kent are all fringe players.
Lonie too is a bigger lossthan the general AFL fan may realise and Battle went on the list more recently

Re: Injuries and Excuses?
Geary, imo is a massive loss.
One of the best shut down small defenders in the AFL, leader, organiser and courageous.
He is dependable and has finished top 5 in the b&f 4 times (R.U in 2017) whilst not great offensively, he is a defensive gun.

Re: Injuries and Excuses?
Ok so put the debate over Paddy's ability to one side, not having the extra tall power forward has been a huge, massive and debilitating loss. We just haven't been able to get the right structure settled down and it has allowed the opposition to put their best defenders on Bruce and Members amoungst the other vulnerabilities it creates further up the ground.skeptic wrote: ↑Sat 20 Jul 2019 6:53pmNot directed specifically at you SrS, but rather something that’s bobbed on this forum a bit as of late.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Sat 20 Jul 2019 6:44pmHuge loss is a bit strong.skeptic wrote: ↑Sat 20 Jul 2019 6:34pm I feel like the perception of Paddy has really changed term of his injury lay off

Just a fit and available Paddy would have helped us immensely. The fact there is a debate on how good he is or isn't is based on such a small sample size and is laughable. He clearly is deemed by many great forwards past and present as having the tools and potential to be good but clearly hasnt had any luck with getting the opportunity to convert potential into our wildest Tony Lockett dreams.
Just a really sad story and I hope for him and his family he can make it.

Didn't see much passion, flair, belief and run last night from the bummers. In fact , thankfully I haven't seen much of Saintkev on this site. Slunk back to his root (s)
