Re: Top 5 draft picks
Anderson would be the one
But Kemp would also do.
Marshall, Billings, Gresham, Clarke, King, Anderson/Kemp need to become our stars
Bytel, Battle, Coffield, Paton need to become players
And then, we might just become a team

Re: Top 5 draft picks
If Carlton keep winning and we don't, Kemp is the most likely.
Anderson if we finish 17th.
No e in Clark.

Re: Top 5 draft picks
We may miss the two main guns, but there will still be good mids available at our pick.
Saints pick could be anywhere from Pick 2 to 6.
We play both the Blues and Dees and those two games in particular are likely to have a huge effect on where our pick ends up being.

Re: Top 5 draft picks
One advantage this year is that as Carlton have already traded their first pick that they will not be trying to finish lower.

We still have to pick players regardless of whether we win 6 games or 0.
Glad you could join us in the "navel gazing" though by reading a thread clearly labeled what it is actually discussing.

Re: Top 5 draft picks
Assuming Rowell & Anderson are out of the picture (I don’t see us finishing bottoms 2) I’d look at the following:
Brodie Kemp
Dylan Williams
Lachie Ash
Hayden Young
Caleb Serong
Fairly ordinary draft with the exception of the top 2. Kemp or Williams for me, both forward-mids. Maybe Ash for his pace & skills but he is another small back.

Re: Top 5 draft picks
If the two games against the Gold Coast where St.kilda won by 1 point and 4 points were reversed then St.kilda would currently have the number one draft pick. It makes a complete nonsense of all the talk about the Gold Coast being gifted the top two selections.
DO THE MATHS AND THE SQUARES ARE ALL ROOTED.

We could have the best team of “if only I wasn’t injured, I would reach my potential” players

Re: Top 5 draft picks
Don't get Bridie Kemp he is done for a year with his ACL. Get the best outside mid available at pick 4-8.
We don't need another broken player, we want one ready to go next season.
Will start looking at draftees closer to season end once I know our position but what I don't want is a) a broken player, b) a half back flanker, c) a HBF that may become a mid, d) an inside mid E) a small forward.

Re: Top 5 draft picks
Looking at the fixture as we play all of the Dees, Blues and Swans we could well win them all, or lose them all or anywhere in between.
North with their draw could win 4 or lose 4.
We could still finish second last or could even climb to 10th.
So picks 2 to 9.
Ignoring the ACL many pundits have Kemp as the third best player, with picks 4+ then a bit of a drop off.
If we have say pick 8 or 9 and Kemp is still there you could see Saints still picking him if they believe that he is a genuinely much better player, and not just slightly better.
So the question then becomes is one really worried about 2020, or is one more worried about being the best team we can be from 2021 on.

Re: Top 5 draft picks
not worth worrying about. it's all piss in the wind when it comes to picking the curd from the whey when it's still squirting from the cow.

Re: Top 5 draft picks
I would jump on Kemp, regardless of Injury.
The win against the dogs has hurt our chances of getting Anderson.

Why would GC want Newnes?

Also, if GC want Newnes, he is a free agent. They don’t need to trade for him.
If anyone offers anything worthwhile, Saints won’t match.

We'll get diddley squat for Newnes
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Top 5 draft picks
Year in, year out at this time of year we are told "this draft is light on for Key Position players", why is that, don't tall kids play footy anymore.

Re: Top 5 draft picks
Just luck of the draw.
Look at 2015. Of the first 14 players picked 6 were KP players. 7 now if you now include Francis who wants to play CHB.
Blues in that gained three of them in Weitering, McKay and Curnow.
