Luke Darcy saw Rowan Marshall coming
I can distinctly remember a number of times in games last year where Luke Darcy was commentating and he made specific mention to really liking the way Rowan Marshall moved and played in patches.
The way he said it during numerous games meant he obviousky identified early that Rowan had the goods. Begs to differ what were the coaches andnlist managers at St Kilda thinking putting Longer Hickey and Pierce ahead of him and offering up ridiculous sums for an untried essendon ruckman.
I'm going to say if he puts in another year like this next year he should be the next captain.

Re: Luke Darcy saw Rowan Marshall coming
He should be captain because he’s a good player?
Seriously?!
He’s played 25 games FFS

Darcy had to get something right eventually.

He’s our most important player. If he’s not (yet) captain material then he should be put into the leadership group to develop that aspect of his game. We have found a beauty here.

I hadn't given that any thought but I like your left field thinking. He's inspirationally competitive, so he ticks an important box.Saint_Singapore wrote: ↑Mon 22 Jul 2019 2:53am I'm going to say if he puts in another year like this next year he should be the next captain.

Still number 1 ranked player in the comp since round 11
As ex-president Peter Summers said:

To be fair, he just likes to predict things after they happen.
*Allegedly.

An inditement on Richardson's decision making that he did not have Marshall in the best 22 for round one.Myron Gaines wrote: ↑Mon 22 Jul 2019 9:27pm He’s our most important player. Anyone with a clue knew, it was beyond obvious Marshall was clearly in the best 22 before round one this year.
The fact that Richardson did not have him in is further evidence of his appalling judgement and abysmal team selection.
Marshall is currently the best player on the list.

Yep, it was blindingly obvious even before he'd played a single game. I don't think it was enough that Richo resigned. I think he should've been hung, drawn and quartered.barks4eva wrote: ↑Tue 23 Jul 2019 12:31amAn inditement on Richardson's decision making that he did not have Marshall in the best 22 for round one.Myron Gaines wrote: ↑Mon 22 Jul 2019 9:27pm He’s our most important player. Without wishing to further dance on Richo’s grave, I feel he is a poor judge of a footballer who has significant blind spots. His lukewarm endorsement of Acres, for example. His preference for Longer over Hickey. Re: Luke Darcy saw Rowan Marshall coming
ALL of this current list has been mostly selected by Alan and certainly ALL of it has been developed by Alan. He is higley regarded for his talent spotting and player development. He has done his job in that regard and the debate will continue on other aspects of his tenure but he has delivered in spades with regards to development of a good list that is capable of taking the next step.
His work is done now and it's time for the next coach to improve on his work.
We have a good list but continuous improvement never stops.
If we were to win a flag with this core of players then Alan's fingerprints would be all over the cup.
