Happy for the win, but that style won't stand up to the good sides.

I found myself wondering about this as well post game, and not just pressure but where the opponents plays more of a defensive game. We played an attacking gameplan against a team that likes also to play attacking football.

How would it have gone against a very defensive team?

But then again maybe Ratten will adopt more of a horses for courses philosophy where he adapts for the opponent.

It will be interesting watching in the next 5 games. Crows in Adelaide will be a big test as will be the Swans in Sydney. Freo at our home will no doubt clamp down.

I liked that we kept up the scoreboard pressure every time we were challenged. Reminded me of our 2004-2006 sides.

But, yes, you may have a point. Time will tell

Yeah at times it looked like the Dogs were going to get a run on and we answered every time, which was pleasing.

Btw, 2020 is the Year of the Rat in the Chinese zodiac. This year is the year of the pig, which bodes well for Collingwood

I never watch press conferences by any coach but I know as an indirect facilitator you must be hanging on every word of them now BR is our new coach.

I know the guy that writes the scripts and he said get exited becuse he's working on some new words to introduce and with BRs unique intonation and delivery you'll be rushing to bet the shirt on your back for us to be premiers.

I always used to cringe when a microphone was stuck in Harves face, I still do. I doubt I'll be watching him in a press conference anytime soon too.

Nothing wrong with being modest and uncomfortable in front of a mic as a player. How he communicates now to players is probably more important.

Coach pressers are a sham anyway when the participants have their hands (tongues) tied with what they can and cannot talk openly about, to show genuine emotion / frustration.

This is one of the reasons I don't want Harves as #1 Although, if he can suitably communicate to 40odd players, who cares?

We judge a coach on press conferences now?

Interesting?

Reality is, wtf are they going to say publicly after a game... not much
What they say behind closed doors matters

Coaches aren’t there for the supporters or media
They are there to coach footy
The rest is just window dressing

We missed three easy getable goals in the first quarter. Those three go through the big sticks and the game would have been well and truly over at quarter time,

It was basically over for the doggies then anyway.

And they kicked 10.0 after half time.
Coming into that game they were the most inaccurate team in the comp....Yes, worse than us!
They were lucky to get as close as they did.

Dogs were the best defensive team in the AFL across the 4-week period leading into last week. They had kept their opponents to 66 points, 55 points, 41 points, and 82 points. They were playing for their first finals berth in three years.

We had 31 shots on goal and should have kicked 20 goals. It was a supreme effort against a side that was in excellent form defensively.

Even Richo gave us something on the rare occasion. Press conferences are not always 100% scripted and filled with cliches from start to finish every time. There might be just one interesting statement here or there, but I found the best coaches were often the ones who were generous in their summaries and in giving the fans some insight that was usually educational or at least informative.

There are coaches like Dennis Pagan, Leigh Matthews, Malcolm Blight and Kevin Sheedy (and in the last ten years Alastair Clarkson, Ross Lyon and Mick Malthouse) that I enjoyed listening to because there'd be one or two things where you'd get an insight into the person and their philosophy on the game and their coaching methods. They helped me personally to understand what made them tick and why they were successful as leaders

Maybe we should consider a press conference coaching assistant....hang on isn't that the media managers role?

Public relations is all about lying...question time in parliament is only less boring than footy press conferences.
