Jono Marsh - X Factor

Post: # 1839962Post Cordz2 »

When Marsh came on the ground last night o thought “who the hell is that unit?” Then On the couple of disposals and goal, he reminded me of some of the Gaelic highlights I watched of Tommy Walsh. In a word explosive. Handy guy to have up your sleeve in September should we get there over the next few years.

Unique circumstances in the current climate, that a player can come on fresh in the last quarter. But impressive nevertheless.

It'll be out of him and King for that role, won't it?

Or did last night strongly suggest that King's best work will be up the ground?

It will be up the ground for a while until young Max is able to get himself into the swing of things of being a permanent deep key forward. Once he gets the rhythm of being 'the man' and taking a big defender ... he can create havoc up the ground as a 202cm wing/HF. The encouraging thing for Max last night was that he had an appetite for the contests and kept putting himself in dangerous places but he had an experienced player on him (Frost) who could work him around so, inhibited his ability to clunk it. That will come with time .... and an enormous amount of eating and weights! But - his work at ground level was terrific and his slamming tackle on Frost was something to behold.

It'll be a while before he's a dominant key forward but hold on to your hats when he gets there.

Explosive speed and enthusiastic.
Looked good and would be in the mix if that form continued.

Battle is one to watch as he doesn’t seem required down back or up forward.

Jono Marsh definitely reminded me Stringer.

Finally watched replay again last night. Geez he's quick. He's got some serious wheels for a big guy. And did some really nice things also with the quick goal a highlight. I'm pretty sure I called it last year that with another preseason this guy could really be something. I liked what I saw again. Spots are going to be hard to get this year. Sandy is going to be a good team this year.

So you’re saying the other players were going half pace making him look fast?

Maybe - but he was nonetheless explosive off a few steps. Question is if he can maintain that for four quarters.

A couple of my Collingwood mates were a huge wrap for him before he left ,a very handy back up!

Bring back the sub - he'd be a perfect fit for the old sub rule.

I actually know close to f*** all about him.

Aside from what I saw last year. Which was basically a big guy who seemed slow, didn't seem particularly fit, not a natural forward and not a natural defender.

He did however, have a genuine dip.

So how much of the above was the exception (due to being totally unprepared), or the rule?

He did look fast on Friday - but type of player is he? Is he an aerialist? Or a big, ground player?

Is he a defender, or a forward?

Is he a Mihocek type? Or a Hawkins? Or does he play smaller than them?

It will be interesting to see if he gets game time in the first 3 quarters of the next game. If he comes on in the last quarter again then does that indicate what BR thinks about his future career at the club?

You'd think Marsh and McKenzie would get more game time this week. I'd be surprised if Geary and Robbo get a full game. You'd want to ease them back in.
