Saints who were great or could have been great in other sports

Well there are quite a few obvious ones but lets just take one per poster.

I'm going with Plugger.... could have been an Olympic javelin thrower

Schneider and Milne represented Australia in Kabbadi. I wonder how their careers are going now.

Keeping on the Olympic front and once removed, Chesty Mulhalls daughter could put a shot pretty well.

before quitting after u/14s to concentrate on footy gilbert mcadam was a darn fine soccer player. top cricketer too, as was younger brother adrian. had a few good battles with both on the soccer field over the years. aidy returned to soccer in alice (and footy) after his short afl career.

I’ve never known if one ‘puts’ a shot or is ‘putting’ a shot? Yes, I agree Gail/Gael did either of those pretty well.

And I think Ivan Baumgartner’s daughter (May have been his grand-daughter) Michelle, ran a pretty good race. I’m sure she represented Australia in either Commonwealth or World Games.

Just googled her. Michelle was Ivan’s daughter. She qualified for the 1992 Olympics, but ruptured her Archilles tendon prior to the Games and thus ending her competitive running career.

It was said that Nick Riewoldt could have been an elite 400 metre runner (or was it 800 metres).

I remember Michelle well, she was very well known around Melbourne as an athlete in the 80's as the pin up girl of aths and remember reading struggled mentally and maybe had an eating disorder.

Had no idea of the saints connection, thanks Loris.

None other than Daly Thompson who'd have a fair idea. If I recall correctly after watching Nick train, and it was 400mt.

We had an Under 19's player (as the thirds were, still in the 80's) called Shane Warne. He could have been quite a handy cricketer.

Ivan played 16 games for the Saints in 1956 , kicking 1 goal. Previously he had played 27 games with the girls down at sleepy hollow.
