Is Geary injured??
In all the coverage of last nights game against the Bulldogs, no mention has been made of Jarryn Geary's performance.
On the AFL website, he is shown as having just 3 touches, and rated as the worst player on the ground.
At some stage late in the game I saw him on the bench, and there was also mention that his previously badly injured quad was heavily strapped.
I'm wondering if Geary may be injured - does anyone have any information??
And, no, this is not an invitation to bag the skipper!!

Coach said he was rapped in his performance. Kept JJ quiet. Also received a knock early on.

yep, got a worrying corky by the looks, and was obviously given the role to stop jj launching from the back. did it very well. didn't hear him named worst on field anywhere, just looks that way as stats don't tell all.

Great effort by him.
Totally sacrificed his own game for the sake of the team.

Re: Is Geary injured??
Geary had scans today.. (reported on Ch 9 news).
Geary did a great job of tagging JJ out of the game. Completely eliminated his run and dash that in the past has often cut us open.

Re: Is Geary injured??
Don't just look at the stats!
Apart from reducing the Dogs key play-maker lines-runner to an ineffectual game, Gear's set up an inspirational goal with a brilliant tap to King who passed to Hill which led to a Butler goal.
It was a pivotal moment in the game.
Had Gears taken possession he would most likely have been tackled or forced to retreat ground.
But he knew King was there and executed perfectly.
It was a heads-down moment for the Dogs and the moment when it looked like we would win the game.
And that brilliant match-winning tap from Gears earned him ZERO stats.

Re: Is Geary injured??
Geary did the job of nullifying JJ but he also reminded me of late-career Armo at times with his inability to pick the ball up from the ground. Certainly doesn't look as fit or mobile as he was a few years ago

Saints skipper sidelined by hamstring injury
Daniel Cherny

St Kilda are set to be without skipper Jarryn Geary for Saturday's clash with Collingwood at the MCG.
Geary sustained what the Saints are saying is a minor hamstring strain during Sunday night's win over the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium.
While the injury wasn't severe enough to keep Geary from playing out the game, it is significant enough that the Saints have ruled him out of at least the meeting with the Magpies.
"Jarryn was playing a role on one of their key playmakers, so for him to stay out there was really important for the team," St Kilda head of football David Rath said.
"Unfortunately, he will miss Saturday's clash with the Magpies but the injury is very minor and we expect him to be running by the end of the week."
Playing in an unusual role as a defensive forward, Geary nullified Dogs speedster Jason Johannisen on the weekend.
The injury continues a bad run of luck for the St Kilda veteran, who was limited to just five senior matches last year because of thigh and leg issues.
However the Saints still have almost a full list to choose from. Luke Dunstan, Shane Savage, Jimmy Webster, Jack Sinclair, Dylan Roberton, Dean Kent and Josh Battle are among the Saints with AFL experience who missed senior selection on the weekend.
Coming off an almost two-year layoff with a heart problem, Roberton played in the round one loss to North Melbourne but the defender was dropped ahead of round two.
Coach Brett Ratten said after the win against the Dogs that Roberton hadn't been performing as hoped.
"Dyl did some fantastic work to get himself into a position for round one," Ratten said.
"He probably just had some signs where he was just not quite to the level that he'd like to be and we'd like him to be, so he's gone away to work on a few things.
"He's been out of the game for a long time and he's got a little bit of a challenge at the moment, but I know that he'll be working really hard and we'll work with him."

That tap was remarkable.Enrico_Misso wrote: ↑Mon 15 Jun 2020 9:10pm Apart from reducing the Dogs key play-maker lines-runner to an ineffectual game, Gear's set up an inspirational goal with a brilliant tap to King who passed to Hill which led to a Butler goal.
At the time I saw it, I thought it was a blind risk, totally luck, but now I realise, he just had to have heard the shout out. He was facing and running in the wrong direction and he scooped it backwards - amazing. Or am I dreaming?
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

St Kilda captain Jarryn Geary will miss Saturday’s clash against Collingwood with a minor hamstring injury.
The skipper incurred the strain during the first quarter of Sunday night’s win over the Western Bulldogs.
Despite playing out the game, scans late yesterday revealed he will likely be sidelined for one-two weeks.

One of Geary's assets is awareness of what's around him, he sees things that are sometimes above his ability to execute but his timing and awareness are excellent.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Tue 16 Jun 2020 3:33pmThat tap was remarkable.Enrico_Misso wrote: ↑Mon 15 Jun 2020 9:10pm Apart from reducing the Dogs key play-maker lines-runner to an ineffectual game, Gear's set up an inspirational goal with a brilliant tap to King who passed to Hill which led to a Butler goal.

Re: Is Geary injured??
Gears is becoming an injury liability unfortunately.
Just hope he comes good as we need his onfield leadership.
Delighted Kent is out of the team and staying out now that we have Butler who is a far better option.

Re: Is Geary injured??
Well as Geary played as a defensive forward, it means that our backline can stay unchanged.

The way it is being officially described suggests a face fracture. The guy has no luck and deserves some. Very good captain.

We’ll have to bring in Newnes or Weller to play that role.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Tue 16 Jun 2020 7:26pm Well as Geary played as a defensive forward, it means that our backline can stay unchanged.

Eddy in the mid-year draft. He is over his broken arm. So good to go. Luckily as we skipped so many games Round 3 is mid-year.

He claimed this was guaranteed upon the restart of the season, and round 2 made him look like a fool, so now he is grasping at strawsmagnifisaint wrote: ↑Tue 16 Jun 2020 7:36pmFarken hell, thats an inspirational post!Secret Kiel wrote: ↑Tue 16 Jun 2020 7:21pm The flood gates will open up on hammies and soft tissue injuries.

I know some might not like me saying it, but Geary’s replacement will only make our team better.

No, the skipper completely eclipsed their most-damaging player (after Bontempelli). Good coaching by Ratten and even better execution by Geary.

Re: Is Geary injured??
He’ll be a big loss Geary. Was very good on Sunday.
Will be a big test for Ratten too.
Thought we went with too many small FPs in round 1 and had a much better balanced team this week. Personally, I’d like to see us bring Roberton back and rejig the backline. Bringing Kent back will be a mistake
