Changes v Crows (3rd away game in a row)

Post: # 1852306Post Jacks Back »

3rd away game in a row - Is there any chance of wearing our actual home jumper??

Out:
Long (probably)
Marsh
Kent
Ross (send a message)

Lucky not to be dropped:
Lonie,
Carlisle (sick of 8 metre dinky kicks and the turning circle of the sunken Titanic),
Hill (worst ranked player for Saints - even worse than Marsh)

In:
Roberton (if not fit then Savage)
Bytel
Byrnes
Ryder

As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

Are we officially tanking?

Where are all these players getting touch from or showing the coaches they have good AFL standard form.

There is only one comp in the country at the moment that gives the selectors a look at players.

And as a side note does anyone calling for player genocide actually understand how sporting club are run. How popular will the coach be if he acts like a petulant child and drops a 3rd of the side after all of the sacrifices the players are making for Murdoch. FFS! CLUELESS!!

IF: fantasy points are a rough proxy for effort and our top fp scorers against the Dockers were around 70 points, lets, say, look at those scoring in the 30s* or dare we say it, less. We had 5 that could be described as having Barry Crockers: Hill, Marsh, Butler, Ross, Geary - Kent on the cusp. Hill, Butler and Geary are not going to be dropped if fit. So Marsh and Kent are likely to go with no reason not to drop Seb and good arguments to give him a break. Longy will get a week - 2 weeks penalty with an early plea discount. Suggested ins: Paddy R for Marsh (Paddy knows Adelaide too); Webster for Ben L; Langlands for Seb (I think Coach Ratten rates Doulton) and possibly one of Bytel or Byrnes for Kent (based on the reports of how those two are going).

*(Freo's top players were in high 80s and its worst uninjured player was high 30s, as may be expected given the steam rolling after qtr time)

That capitulation was not one of those aberrations where you can allow the same 22 to make amends, especially in a shortened season. Long's bump ensures it won't be.

OUT: Long (suspended), Marsh (he can thank Marshall's poor game for contributing), Kent / Lonie (one of, unsure who offers more or less so maybe both).

IN: Webster, Ryder, Byrnes, (Sinclair or Bytel if both Lonie & Kent omitted).

I can't see them dropping Geary or Ross, not yet & not as we've just begun our Hub experience. Let's see whether these leaders can lead us through this.

Marshall should be rested this week

Yesterday he looked tired and a bit sore and frustrated. We have a fine replacement in Ryder. And I think that as Marshall is still an inexperienced ruckman and we have Ryder on the list he should be rested every few weeks

Brad Hill has been more than ordinary for at least two weeks and a message needs to be sent

Paton is starting to look tired and has lost his dash

Long will be out

In Ryder, Bytel or Sinclair, Roberton Webster

Highly doubt there will be more than 3 changes with one being forced.

As long as there are changes, what happened yesterday cannot be tolerated. A message must be sent. Ratten was strong enough to say Roberton and Dunstan weren't up to it, a couple of months after our loss to North. He should find it easier to figure out who wasn't up to it yesterday...
Hill
Butler
Lonie
Kent
King
Marshall
Howard
Ross
Marsh
Geary
All of the above were just a low fraction of what each are capable of. If Ratten wants to make an example of some, he's spoilt for choice.

Surely Sinclair will come in.

He played every game last year and has been an emergency in every game this year.

He is one of our most creative players and time to give him a go.

As much as the media tried to paint it another way, the Adelaide ruckman towelled you NicNat yesterday, so I wouldn’t be against bringing in Ryder for Marsh, even just to bash into him at centre bounces a bit.

Our midfield was the biggest problem. I wouldn't be surprised if Byrnes gets his call up. Surely this also opens up the door for Roberton and Webster. Throw Clark into the middle.

Long suspended - Robo or Webster in
Lonie out - Langlands in
Ross out - Byrne in
Marsh out - Bytel in
Kent out - Sinclair in
Marshall out (for rest) - Ryder in (for Adelaide Oval experience)

Or play 2 rucks and drop Marsh for Ryder and choose between Byrne/Bytel for Ross replacement

Hill extremely lucky but I will back him to step up against the Crows and we will need his run

A strong smack down message needs to delivered to the playing group regarding this grating Freo loss

I'm all for giving Marshall a rest this week, plus Long (suspended), and one of our experienced midfielders who went missing after quarter time yesterday. 3 changes needs to happen.

Roberton Howard Coffield
Clark Carlisle Wilkie
Jones Billings Hill
Byrnes Marshall Membrey
Gresham King Butler
Ryder Steele Bytel

And there is our problem because I would like to include as our Interchange 4 players who can contribute to our midfield rotations and contribute by contesting, winning and using the ball

We have defensive back up from Austin to an experienced brigade

We have small forward back up because of who is not included from last week

Mids - well I have included Bytel and Byrnes who we have Drafted as 18 year olds

The one thing that leads to to me at least is that we continue to build a side for next year and the years after - so we don’t go back to players who have represented us during the recent lean years

If they were good enough we would not have endured those many lean years

The focus is exclusively on building our next Premiership side - hence finding out it Bytel and Byrnes are of the required quality

Acknowledging that our midfield is not of the required standard or depth - hence North Melbourne, Collingwood and Fremantle getting us as they did

Geary and Ross out.

Here are my reasons: http://saintsational.net/viewtopic.php? ... 5#p1852608

What is the point of fluffing around with just a guy like Kent or Lonie being dropped. Let’s make a real statement.

NO ONE IS UNTOUCHABLE!!!

I’m not convinced either on Howard just yet. He makes a few blunders disposal wise and he doesn’t commit to every contest. Depends on how many talls they play but maybe he sits out as well if there’s back up defenders fit and ready to play...like Robbo perhaps

Webster and Bytel and any other fit young bloke to come in who is hungry to contribute to a Saints win

Howard will be good. Just finding his way a little.
Sometimes gets shown up because Carlisle has left his man and Howard has run in to try spoil late.
Be happy to have Robo back there directing traffic.
Clark into midfield.
Byrne's and Bytel both in would be great to see.

We aren't going to win it this year....let's see what we can uncover.

Ross and Lonie have a rest with Longy.
Brad Hill needs to lift.

Gears and Seb can be left out but not lose face. Jarryn "sore', Seb managed.
Marsh seems as enthusiastic as a puppy but also just as focused.
Marshal (no relation) seems a ready made CHF and they don't grow on trees. We have Paddy and Abbott available.
Mosquito fleet of forwards approach might be better against sides like Hawthorn and/or in dry, less congested conditions - say March 2021.
Dean Kent is a worry, looks terrific very occasionally. Can't remember a saving tackle or mark in defence (?)
And if B.Hill isn't going to get stuck into midfield trench warfare perhaps he could just run a defender out of the game well away from the action until boredom sets in and he finds himself all alone.
Its tough being an amateur selector in remote lockdown, yes?

Marsh has upside like a lot of younger blokes in the team.

I feel that they need game time to improve and Marsh has attributes which are in demand: Speed/height/strength/agility

I'd keep playing him if he's fit
