How good is coffield?
Question to the forum. How good is he and how good can / will he be?
Some decided to write him off after a handful of matches. Others saw enough... im with the latter!

Very good. Conditions aren’t easy tonight, so those marks he is taking show a lot of class

Re: How good is coffield?
Is very well suited to a HBF opposed to the midfield.
Reckon trying to turn him into one last year really effected him negatively.
Looks really comfortable where he is and is playing well. Reads the ball well and surprisingly fast, good decision making. Safe disposal too
Really like the kid.

Re: How good is coffield?
We have the makings of a tip top back six.
Coff will be a massive part of that.

His best game for the Saints.
I would have dropped him early in the season but I am pleased to say he has proved me wrong by a long way.

Re: How good is coffield?
We have a premiership defence in the the making.
Coff, Wilkie, Long and Howard will play the next 10 years together.
Paton could also be a part of that but still has a bit to prove. He's progressing ok.
Clark will end up midfield full time so we'll need to replace him (Webster possibly) and another tall timber as Carlisle may be past it by time we're a real threat. (He's still capable of a few goods years yet though.)
Would be good to see AL get a game at some stage, as I've liked what I've seen of him. With short breaks coming up I think team rotations will play a big part of the season so we may see a few faces come through. After tonight I reckon some players could defintley use a rest.

I like that each week seems to be "his best game". I'm wrapped for the kid.

Re: How good is coffield?
Paton is definitely part of it. Another super solid game tonight. I've my fingers crossed for Clavarino. Then that entire back 6 has 10 years.stkfc1 wrote: ↑Mon 20 Jul 2020 11:31pm We have a premiership defence in the the making.

Re: How good is coffield?
I'm somewhat bemused that Roo, of all people, keeps bringing up Clark and Coffield and not mentioning Paton. He's as much a part of what's keeping Gears out of the backline and Robbo, Savage and Webster out of the team as the other two. It's a brave call by the coaching group to play all three over established veterans who are available for selection. For all we lack experience in the backline, I really don't think that's been the cause when we've had problems.
Interesting, they were all very close in a lot of stats tonight:
Clark: 16 disposals, 8 contested, 5 intercepts, 3 rebounds, 75% effiency, 246 metres gained
Coffield: 17 Disposals, 6 contested, 8 intercepts, 4 rebounds, 88% efficiency, 240 metres gained
Paton: 16 disposals, 7 contested, 8 intercepts, 3 rebounds, 81% efficiency, 257 metres gained
I've also been enjoying how two-sided Clark and Paton are. In particular, how they both seem to have no problem kicking off their non-preferred in uncontested situations. Clark had a turnover off his left tonight, but they seem to both be fairly evenly skilled on both sides.
Coff, I think, is the best out of the three at reading the play and dropping off his man to assist in a contest. He's probably the best kick out of the three, at least off his right. I agree with the posts above that said Coff and Paton look like long-term defenders, where Clark probably moved into midfield full-time eventually.
It's quite refreshing to watch a team that's not only winning more games, but also playing young, exciting players in important roles.

Re: How good is coffield?
Coffield showed ability from the outset
With the change of Coach came opportunity and the Fremantle first quarter until he did his shoulder and season
That 20 minutes confirmed he is our future
And Clark remains in defence
The midfield needs to be addressed without robbing Peter to pay Paul
Long, Clark and Coffield
Howard confirmed my inside mail from Port Adelaide They said he could play on a wing so athletic is he
Carlisle is also class
Then you have Paton as the surprise packet, Wilkie who was quiet and Roberton and Austin in reserve
Plus Claravino developing
You build from your back 6 and we have the makings
