Rank the 5 traded players
Huge value from every one of them in my opinion
Howard has taken Full back and owned it.
Ryder has been a champion in the ruck
Hill although a few quiet games, has shown he is a gun
Jones has been a midfield inside/outside gun
Butler freakish pace and finishing skill
Would be interested to see your ranking.
Mine is:
1. Ryder
2. Butler
3. Howard
4. Hill
5. Jones

1. Ryder
2. Butler
Then Howard, Hill, Jones in no particular order. All have had their moments.
Ryder has been magnificent. Just the way the guys respond to him shows how respected a figure he is.

Not much love for the tin man, thought he was a bit better last couple of weeks.
Has to be the worst on a value for money basis.
1Ryder
2 Butler
3 Howard
4 Jones
5 Hill

Re: Rank the 5 traded players
1 Ryder, he allows Marshall to play more forward and that helps King so I think structurally he has been the most important. I love Ryder.
2 Butler, has dropped off a bit but 27 goals in 17 games and heaps of pressure have made him an incredible bargain
3 Howard has been great only beaten by Hawkins from memory
4 Jones has been very good offering pace out of the middle giving us something different
5 Hill has been good and getting better, two things I loved about him against GWS other than his goal were his smother on Kelly’s kick and his reaction when Billings kicked his goal. He’s a Saint now

Great Call on Hill. Looked gutted after the Melbourne game and has been in the best since then.Goose is king wrote: ↑Sun 20 Sep 2020 7:09pm 5 Hill has been good and getting better, two things I loved about him against GWS other than his goal were his smother on Kelly’s kick and his reaction when Billings kicked his goal. I agree with all this. All 5 of them have made significant contributions.Goose is king wrote: ↑Sun 20 Sep 2020 7:09pm 1 Ryder, he allows Marshall to play more forward and that helps King so I think structurally he has been the most important. I love Ryder.

Re: Rank the 5 traded players
I've flipped throughout the year and maybe other fans have too.
First it was Dan, then Zac, then Dan, next Paddy and Dougall, then Dan again and now Brad Hill and Paddy Ryder have been the standouts.
I think the leadership from Paddy has been brilliant and same with the other guys.
What I've loved is their attitude and their hunger to compete. Take Paddy again, with his willingness in the preseason to push himself fitness wise
Great role models.
The younger players love Paddy and even though he may not say much, I'm sure they all look up to him and pay attention when he gives instructions
You notice with a guy like Ryder, that he's not afraid to get his knees dirty
His desperation and second efforts are brilliant for a big bloke as well as his tackling
It's invaluable that we have so many on field leaders and everyone feels like they have a voice.
It's been a good lesson in inclusiveness for all the 'established' players. Not that they had any option than to accept their new team mates
I don't think there is a divide between younger players and older players and that augers well for playing as a team

Re: Rank the 5 traded players
I Love how Howard gets right into the team song when we win. Jumping up and down and clapping. Love it.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

5 Ryder
4 Butler
3 Jones
2 Howard
1 Hill
N.B.: By the end of our finals campaign expect Hill to move up to 3, if not 2. I expect Ryder to continue to be our most important if not our best.

Re: Rank the 5 traded players
Hill by a fair margin
Jones not far behind
Buttler could be 1st or 2nd.
Those three are what this team desperately needed
Ryder a bonus
Howard still has a lot to learn but I'm glad we picked him up and should get better but will struggle if we lose Carlisle.

Re: Rank the 5 traded players
Almost impossible to rank but the one I’ve taken most joy out of watching is Ryder. Such a great story given that at his age he, in our environment none the less, has worked himself into near career best form and conditioning. The man deserves to win a final!

Re: Rank the 5 traded players
1. Newnes - back to career best form & slotted in well at carlscum and seems to be a leader
2. Acres - firing when fit and showing glimpses of that undoubted ability
3. Steven - had some impact but really looks par AFL fitness. Not the player he was
4. Bruce - the big fella has really struggled at the Dogs with perhaps 1 or 2 good showings
5. Hickey - Out: Hickey (omitted) is a common sight
2. Acres - firing when fit and showing glimpses of that undoubted ability

Re: Rank the 5 traded players
Almost impossible to rank, because they offer some so much in radically different categories.
I'm inclined to say:
Jones,
Butler,
Howard,
Ryder,
Hill,
In terms of sheer skill, I'd rank them in almost reverse order. (Just Butler ahead of Howard maybe.)
I am really happy to have them all.

Spot on. I feel the same.Goose is king wrote: ↑Mon 21 Sep 2020 2:24pm I don’t recall seeing Ryder speak in saints kit but I just love him. I can’t pin point why.
I think it's because he seems like a genuinely nice guy who plays the game with focus, finesse and without the histrionics of some. Just dedicated to his craft and doesn't need to trash talk or carry on ... he's dominating with his talent and work ethic alone.
Go you red, black & white warriors
