Trauma - 10 years ago today

10 of the most stressful minutes of our lives as we thought we had it, then thought we hadn't, then thought here it comes, then that unbelievably hollow feeling.

I hardly ever think about it anymore.

Took a while to recover.

I haven't recovered. It's the cumulative affect of the pain and heartbreak of 1997 and 2009 as well. Lucky I was too young in 1971

After the loss in 2010 it took me 6-7 years to be able to sit through a Lionel Ritchie song

I think it took me that long as well.

You really never get over it.

2009 was probably worse in many ways.

I watched it outside Luna Park. Devastated. For about 10 secs I had that possible premiership feeling. For those of us that also were alive and tated the '71 and '97 failures it's pretty soul destroying.

Me too. I remember standing there in the pouring rain by the chip van at half time saying to someone how we'd be remembering it as the most glorious day we'd ever spent anywhere, spite of the weather. Oh well, at least I had that magnificent half hour dreaming!

Much worse. Much, much worse.. We kicked ourselves out of 2009 - Milne, Schneider, McQualter + the Hawkins poster. And then there's Ball not being allowed on the ground in the last q in conditions that suited him/us down to the ground. The Pies were the better team all year in 2010 and we did well to hang tough so long in GF1. But we were the best side in 2009 and yet, Lyon's game plan never allowed the team to kick enough goals to stamp scoreboard pressure.

The 2009 20010 Grand Finals where Riewoldt was allowed to be mauled held blocked and actually punched fair in the head with out penalty.

The 2010 famous cheating umpire with the 50 to Collingwood and a goal then minutes later refusing to pay StKilda a 50 for the same thing.

I look back at 2010 and think, well, on that day, we actually DID stand up as a footy club when it mattered - we saw our dreams materialise in all but premiership glory; we ran over a top team and effected a five-goal turnaround.

I know we lost the Replay; but we didn't lose the Grand Final. I've taken some solace in that. In flies in the face of my usual mentality on here but I appreciate the genuine fight the players gave that day. You can see in the second half that they gave more than any of them realised they could give.

Another lost opportunity, but I'm far prouder of 2010 than any of other our recent GF attempts. You couldn't ask for more in a grand final in terms of effort.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

I’ve always thought if we flipped the 09 and 10 GF performances we would’ve won both - the last qtr of the draw would have beaten Geebung and 09 would’ve overwhelmed the filth if that makes sense

I lost all interest in going to the footy after 2010. Within a whisker of going back to back and come out with nothing. I felt totally gutted.
I have no idea how the players got through. If it had been me I would have given up and retired.
