I knew you were a hypocrite saynta, but c'mon.

That is precisely saynta's (not capitalizing the s) MO. He is unable to have a proper discussion with other posters so he resorts to "playing the man".The_Dud wrote: ↑Mon 28 Sep 2020 2:49pmIt's ok saynta, I know you're playing the man because you can't mount an actual argument against what I'm sayingsaynta wrote: ↑Mon 28 Sep 2020 2:43pmThe_Dud wrote: ↑Mon 28 Sep 2020 2:41pmAnd coaches don't play favourites, and have their likes and dislikes?saynta wrote: ↑Mon 28 Sep 2020 2:37pmWhat a rubbish reply. Or are we only allowed to question the decisions of coaches you don't like, like Lyon?
Go away chuck. :roll:You are really scrapping the bottom of the barrel trying to justify your ridiculous comment.

There may not be a rule but they have proven it is an unwritten rule by selecting Geary week in and week out.

Re: GEARS SIGNS ON FOR 2021
Sorry to say Peanut but this is the loser mentality that has delivered us 27 wooden spoons in 125 years. I strongly and vehemently disagree with what you have said. This is a ruthless competition and nobody is owed anything. Geary has been rewarded very handsomely for someone with limited ability. He is not owed anything. Us as supporters should be demanding that the St Kilda FC which we pour millions of dollars of our hard earned, select the best possible captain to take St Kilda to a premiership. St Kilda owe us the supporters that at a minimum. Unfortunately Geary is not that man now.The Peanut wrote: ↑Mon 28 Sep 2020 5:21pm Any of the negative crap we see here about Gears is just talking for the sake of it and demonstrates just how nasty some supporters are and how psychotic people such as the aptly named 'Dud' is. There was no reason to drop him. Has had a pretty consistent season and lead his team to the finalsSaintPelican66 wrote: ↑Mon 28 Sep 2020 5:45pmThere may not be a rule but they have proven it is an unwritten rule by selecting Geary week in and week out.

Not in our best 22 but I have no problems that we resigned him for another year if he is no longer captain and gets picked on his performance alone. i.e. if he isn't playing well he gets dropped.

Re: GEARS SIGNS ON FOR 2021
You said where is the rule you can't drop the captain. I answered that by pointing out that he is not in our best 22 yet still gets selected. He could have been dropped many times during the season. He has had quite a few games this season where he has been in the bottom 6 players on the ground for us. Yet he was never dropped. And as pointed out earlier, there have been 20 different players that have received coaches votes during the season. Geary is not one of the 20. I dare say there would not be another captain in the comp that can boast this quite embarrassing statistic.sks023 wrote: ↑Mon 28 Sep 2020 6:44pmThere was no reason to drop him. It is clear cut, Geary is borderline (maybe), best 22 this year. No way known is he anywhere near best 22 next year. He is going to make a fool of himself next year. Especially if he is captain again.

He is in our best 22 in the eyes of the selectors, so I will back them in ahead of you
Was it not you who posted that Hanners should have not been picked the other night ?.....guess what the selectors got it right and you got it so wrong

Like numerous others am ok with keeping him on the list. If he’s not best 22 then excellent value as depth and experience. It is looking like he’s just about cooked and his clangers aren’t getting any better. Certainly should not be captain next year. Time to move on.

Re: GEARS SIGNS ON FOR 2021
As you know I love Geary and am rapt to see him sign for 2021
However I understand time takes its toll
Therefore I am sure the club have signed him on (like Burgoyne at Hawks) to help with coaching and the soft cap
To those who are saying he is not a walk up start because he is in our bottom 6, I say fantastic. Because, if he is in our bottom 6 then we must have really strong depth.

Agreed. I simply have more faith in the club, coaches, list managers, etc. than some people on here in regards to Geary and a lot of other matters.terry smith rules wrote: ↑Mon 28 Sep 2020 9:29pm As you know I love Geary and am rapt to see him sign for 2021

Im happy for Gears and he'll be great in a mentor role. He should definitely pass on the mantle of Capt to Steele and if he's still in our best 22 at the end of next year, then we've stagnated.

Hoping this is a coaching role only and maybe depth if needed.
His decision making and foot skills are deplorable.
It seems he is a great bloke but maybe as a coach from now on.

We have to go forward and Geary is not forward and at best now a role player
If there’s no match up for him, he’s out of form or just keeping a good kid out of the side then he shouldn’t play
Steel should be anointed and is our onfield general and everything you want from a captain
In seriousness, Geary got 200 games this year, captain of the side 1st time in finals in a decade.......you don’t get many better send offs.......
anyhow let’s just hope it doesn’t compromise selection

Re: GEARS SIGNS ON FOR 2021
The panic of some about this decision really reminds me of the decision to sign Paddy Ryder, which turned out to be a bloody excellent decision.
I'd encourage everyone who is up in arms to just take a breath...the rubber doesn't hit the road on this decision for several months.
Despite his weaknesses, Geary is still
- one of the better help defenders we have
- one of the better understandings of help defence in the side
- one of the top 5 one-on-one players at the club
I haven't done so, but I imagine if you ask any player on the list whether or not it was worthwhile having Nathan Brown, or Dylan Roberton on the list this season, they would say unequivocally that they well and truly earned their pay
Maybe he'll get games, maybe he won't. Maybe he'll captain, maybe he won't. Just wait and see.
Lastly, on Steele as captain. Yes, he is probably our best player now. Certainly top 3. He plays like a captain too. But there's more to it than that. We don't know how he is in meetings and with the other players...all I'm saying is that as good as he is, it's not a fait accompli.

If Steele wants the job he's got it. Ratts wants him to lead.
I'm sure Jack will not be perfect in some people's eyes, but just watch him grow into the role and watch how he adapts and learns
Steele is our next captain. Get used to it
