Challenge to Saints fans...list our 2021 best 22
I'd love to hear from fellow saints fans how they see our best 22 looking for next season, allowing for the additions of Crouch and Higgins and Carlisle staying.
Mine is:
Paton Howard Wilkie
Long Carlisle Coffield
Hill Steele Clarke
Butler Marshall Billings
Gresham King Membrey
Ryder Crouch Jones
I/C: Hannebery Battle Ross Higgins

Pretty much that
Hard to find a spot for Geary
I think the last spot on the list is between Ross, Sinclair and Bytel.

Yeah, I'd love to have Bytel as one of the interchange but don't have a crystal ball on his pre season development.
To be honest, not a Ross fan!

Not fair. Have to make assumptions about development of certain players, decline of others & recruits & household/playing with the dog accidents. Rain check until ides of March.

Exactly, there lies the challenge...compare your best 22 now and revisit it before round 1

Re: Challenge to Saints fans...list our 2021 best 22
If your assumptions re B Crouch, J Higgins and Carlisle are correct, then I reckon that is the right 22. I would throw the magnets around a bit differently , but that hardly matters.Saintmike65 wrote: ↑Tue 03 Nov 2020 9:03am I'd love to hear from fellow saints fans how they see our best 22 looking for next season, allowing for the additions of Crouch and Higgins and Carlisle staying.

Emergencies Bytel Sinclair and Geary.
I don’t think we had our best 22 available at all this season, so it is all wishful thinking , but still a bit of fun. I had scribbled down my best for 2020 last December, and had Roberton, Webster, Dunstan and Hind in there ( instead of Coffield, Long, Paton and Lonie - the first 3 of those clearly having excellent seasons and now certainly in best 22, and Lonie ahead of Hind )

Seemed to have worked out what it takes to have an impact.
Plays with more passion and gets to more contests and his use us superior to most.
2021 huge year for him.
Will be fighting it out for a spot on the bench.

I like Ben Long, but he is a free kick machine, unfortunately, overwhelmingly in the ‘against’ direction. Sinclair gave away 3. Long 20.

Yeah I'd have Sincs ahead of Ross. Sincs is one of our better ball users and you cant have enough of those. I think Sincs has another gear in him also. Reckon we havent seen his best yet.

Gresham is Ryder’s preferred target. He starts as rover. Higgins to the forward pocket and Jones on the bench.

Same 22 as yours with a few positional changes.
B: Paton, Howard, Wilkie
HB: Coffield, Carlisle, Long
C: Hill, Steele, Jones
HF: Billings, Marshall, Gresham
F: Butler, King, Membrey
Foll: Ryder, Crouch, Clark
Int: Battle, Hannebery, Higgins, Ross
Looks like a top 4 team to me. If we lose Carlisle we need a quality replacement. Payne, T McDonald or Talia are my preferences.

How does it look if we lose Carlisle ?
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Paton Howard Wilkie
Coffield Carlisle Clark
Hill Steele Jones
Membrey Battle Billings
Butler King Marshall
Ryder Crouch Trelour
Hannebery Gresham Long Sinclair/Higgins
Traded: Dunstan, Ross, Lonie
Recruited: Crouch, Trelour, J. Higgins
Midfield rotations.
Crouch, Steele, Trelour, Jones, Hill, Gresham, Clark, Hannerbury, Billings, Higgins
Injuries to a key back man or a ruckman the main vulnerability but starting 22 looks seriously good.

Note: Not really a starting 18 and 4 interchange as any of the 4 on the bench could start.

Probably the two guys on the injury list.
The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

The seconds are looking pretty formidable too.
Especially if we end up with Spud.
Geary probably playing Magoos next year....excellent way to develop your list with smart leaders in there with the kids.

Re: Challenge to Saints fans...list our 2021 best 22
Mine is nearly the same
B: Coffield Howard Wilkie
HB: Paton Carlisle Long
C: Billings Jones Hill
HF: Gresham Marshall Membrey
F: Higgins King Butler
R: Ryder Steele Clark Crouch
I: Geary Hannebery Ross Battle
I have Ryder starting in the ruck and Geary on the bench. I think having a gut busting defensive beast in the rotations will be valuable. Also think he could really help mentor Long into focusing his energies the right way.
I think Billings works best on the left wing for me. Sinclair unlucky, but I have Ross ahead of him.
Going to be intersesting to see how young players like Bytel are developed, and how players on the edge of the 22 are utilised. We have some good depth that we should use to keep the list as fresh as possible during the season.
