Saint's Discard is now Hawthorn Captain

Post: # 1887345Post Bowey Boy »

Another top move by us to trade just as he came really good.

New Hawthorn captain Ben McEvoy has declared the Hawks are intent on “making amends” for a poor 2020 season in which the club won only five matches and failed to make the finals.

McEvoy, 31, was a surprise appointment on Friday, becoming the club’s 37th captain, replacing the retired Ben Stratton....

I was thinking the same thing earlier. Fancy trading out your best ruckman whom had leadership qualities and was tipped to one day lead us.

And so it came to pass - two flags later and now fulfilling the club captaincy role earmarked for many years ago. Just not with us.

So very St Kilda.

One of the worst trades in recent times - Starting 22 young ruckman for existing Fringe player- Granted did play 100 plus games and draft pick (Luke Dunstan) - another fringe player.

Always rated him very highly and was puzzled to say the least when he was traded out. Who replaced him? Billy Longer? A forgettable time in the club’s history.

Benny Mac made captain at about the same age as our fickle supporters reckon Gears is past it. Who is right, who is wrong?

Good for Ben, many pundits had him on his last legs. Reality is he is the last man standing.

Disgusting decision to trade him. He’s been a great player at Hawthorn, which was predictable.

We got rid of him

For the compo for Goddard we took Hickey
For the compo for Dal we took Longer

So basically
In: Hickey, Longer, Savage, Acres
Out: McEvoy, Goddard, Da Santo

Good job Pelchin

Pelican s*** was looking after his mates at other clubs esp the hawks...our interests came a distant last.

Did not concern Pelican who he discarded, his main objective was to have 3 picks in the first round...moron

For me it wasn't just the dumb decision - clubs making those all the time, our club just more than it's fair share
It was the way it was handled
From memory he was on holidays and completely unaware of what was about to happen then got a message before being told officially

At the time, he was good around the ground but a rubbish tap ruckman. I saw him more as a very good key position player, not a dominant ruckman.

Gehrig emerged from scans yesterday saying he was "as sweet as a bun"

He wouldn’t be picked ahead of Ryder or Marshall, but would be a better backup than McKernan

Did Pelchan ever stop to think

Hey, the reason why Hawthorn is willing to give a FRP for a player such as McEvoy is that he is actually a huge asset!

The philosophy was so flawed

With McEvoy you know you have a 200 game player and future leader of the club. What is the guarantee a pick 20 is going to deliver that + a fringe player?!
