How fit and fast are we...
I recon we would have beat the Tiges tonight, the Blues run out of puff late but a side with good legs and speed would have taken that away from Richmond.
I recon at full strength we can beat the Tigers.

I agree.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: How fit and fast are we...
I don't agree either Richmond are well drilled unit with a disciplined defence that create a lot of turn overs that in turn give opportunity to their runners that in turn create opportunity for their forwards . They have Lynch & Riewoldt marking leading forwards & they have the likes of Rioli Castagna Arts & Edwards Prestia to come in & then they have Dusty . They have won 3 premierships in 4 years for a reason & could quite possibly make it a threepeat this year. I hope they don't but at this stage we have a lot to do to get to their level IMOThe Fireman wrote: ↑Thu 18 Mar 2021 10:30pmI don't

Re: How fit and fast are we...
We played Tigers twice last year for 1 win & 1 loss
We had 1 less scoring shot than them in the final loss and we were still a chance with 10mins to go
We will be stronger this year as well

I hope you're right but at this stage of the season IMO we are significantly weaker than we were last year

Re: How fit and fast are we...
I agree, but the key words are, “At full strength.” Sadly we start the season nowhere near that.
Ryder, Marshall, King, are crucial and we really can’t replace them adequately. Structurally it is a worry, particularly with Carlisle seemingly on the outer.
You can build a competitive team out of running midfielders, but it’s fragile without decent structure.

Re: How fit and fast are we...
I thought the Tigers looked really strong and that Carlton managed to score against the tide for the first quarter or so. Then, for a while, they could have a crack. Those Richmond marks in defense were strong. They looked so drilled.
Hard to tell for me how we would go. Certainly Richmond looked strong, that’s for sure.

Re: How fit and fast are we...
Dusty is a freak. Apart from that Richmond is a B+ side in an era where there are no standout teams.
Our team of 2009 would beat them comfortably.
They are gettable now.
(And someone needs to run through Lynch)

At full strength and peak fitness yes, but what anout against a full strength peak richmond? All teams look beatable in round one.

At full strength, I believe we would have won that final against them last year.

If Carlisle, Ryder and Long we’re added into that team I reckon we would have as well

Isolated in a vacuum - it does sound mighty good
They beat us soundly in the final - and prior to that we caught them early in 2020 season & if my brain serves me correctly they were having a few "problems" settling in to the gold coast
So looking back yep we got them in rnd 4 however the week before HAWTHORN whacked them 71 - 39
The tigers are still the yardstick in 2021 - they have a knack of absorbing what you throw at them & then beat you in the last 5 minutes of each quarter

I think they would have walloped us anytime after Round 10, last year..

Looking at the weather forecast for Sydney in the next five days, I think a better question might be, can we swim?
Friday: RAIN
Saturday: RAIN

Reckon if Dusty played for St Kilda we'd easily beat Richmond, gee we might even win the flag...

Re: How fit and fast are we...

& Hardwick claiming he's in the best nick he's ever been & has another level
sends a bit of shudder
Who can remember when he was young and his first contract was due?
and he threw that pencil in the chinese restaurant - oh the horror cant have that sort at Stkilda
sliding doors & we will never know now

Recent history certainly suggests we can. 3 times in four seasons or something - and they've all been comprehensive victories too.The Fireman wrote: ↑Thu 18 Mar 2021 10:30pmI don't

Re: How fit and fast are we...
Remember playing North after they played in a monsoon the week before in Cairns.
We even played them on the Good Friday, so they had a short break.
We were supposed to pulverise them. Nek minnit ...

Re: How fit and fast are we...
Last nights games, Footscary v Collingwood, gives me some perspective of how good Richmond were.......they were awesome. And Carlton were competitive. Collingwood and the bUlldogs were both flawed, dropping marks, missing targets or execution couldn’t match idea.
So now I really think, Richmond were awesome. In fact, I think Carlton would have challenged us too, with our current line up.

Nah, don't think so. We beat them easily two weeks ago.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Sat 20 Mar 2021 10:55am Last nights games, Footscary v Collingwood, gives me some perspective of how good Richmond were.......they were awesome.
