Re: Round 1 team guess - post injuries
Carlisle played some very good games from mid 2019 to mid 2020. Late in 2020 he put in a few iffy performances where he lost his concentration and didn't go hard enough in some contests. That was enough to put him offside with his coaches. Personally, I'd prefer to see him out there playing against GWS this weekend. At 200cm tall he's valuable and reads the play well. I just get this feeling that Highmore will get the gig, though.
I vaguely recall hearing an interview recently where the management of his long-standing back issue was brought up. Maybe his mobility is compromised and they intend to use him sparingly against specific opponents.

from the herald sun.com
.
ST KILDA
The big question mark is who replaces James Frawley in the backline, after the recruit suffered a serious hamstring injury in the AAMI Community Series.
Jake Carlisle has been fit but has been playing in VFL scratch matches, with the Saints favouring Frawley in the key defensive post.
However, he could get a lucky look-in on the back of Frawley’s injury.
Mature-age draftee Thomas Highmore is another potential option after doing some nice things in the Saints’ two warm-up matches, with Darragh Joyce another possibility.
With key forward Max King (concussion) also forced out of the side, the door could also open for former North Melbourne forward Mason Wood at the other end of the ground."
Pretty piss poor. Doesn't mention the rucks or Hunter

Highmore to debut as well. It will be good to see how the new guys go. Get around ‘em!

Likely to be a heavy track in Sydney on Sunday, possibly a blessing for us without our big guys.
Lets hope we select some players with wet weather form....a possible opening for Dunstan & McKenzie perhaps...

No squad on AFL site yet.
Why?
Why?

Re: Round 1 team guess - post injuries
Only 41 players possible now Roberton has retired.
8 injured and 2 unavailalbe
Paton
Frawley
Marshall
Geary
Hannebery
Byrnes
Jones
King
Ryder
Crouch
That leaves 31 to choose from, to leave 23.
Who doesn't get a game is probably easier, 8 to eliminate, who is not ready or so out of favour to miss out
Alabakis
Joyce
Clavarino
McKenzie
Allison
Connolly
Kent
One of Dunstan, Bytel, Long
Means that not only will Hunter and Highmore make their AFL debuts
But McKernan, Wood and Higgins could make their Saints debut as well.
That is scary 5 players who we have never seen play in our team before.
Maybe one of Carlisle, McKernan and Wood could make way for the loser out of Dunstan, Bytel & Long as this game is going to be played in a swimming pool.
Webster Howard Wilkie
Highmore Battle Coffield
.....Hunter
Hill Ross Clark
.....Gresham
.....Steele
Billings McKernan Butler
Membrey Wood Higgins
Int: Sinclair, Dustan, Bytel, Lonie
23: Long
Emerg: Carlisle Kent McKenzie
In the stands: Connolly, Allison, Clavarino, Joyce, Alabakis

Re: Round 1 team guess - post injuries
Looks like the AFL has decided to stop making the clubs publish a fictitious team 3 days early.
Now they publish a realistic team a day before.
The early team selection was really to give time for the printers of the RECORD.
