Ch7 says he got 28 touches?

2 very important points.
1- He's quick but several times his direct opponent got 10m start on him, and he was beaten one-on-one several times, body on body. (Which segues into point 2)
2. His great saving park marks were 100% facilitated by Wilkie putting body on the Dees fwds in the pack, at exactly the right time, and without conceding a free. I think Sam Fisher used to mark the same?
You can see Wilkie lookin at the ump to make sure the mark's not reversed.
Huge credit to these 2 for their technique

I think his night was padded out a bit from 19 behinds kicked by Melbourne.

Long and Highmore took a few kick-ins too.
I have never found out whether the kick-ins just go to team stats, like cricket leg-byes

Also, by the time we play Cats n WCE, those teams would work out how to negate the Wilkie/Howard double team.
Maybe fast leads from their forwards, I don't know

If Dougal and Callum are our best players week in week out we’re stuffed. Dougal played avery good game. His work rate was phenomenal.

I was expecting Jones and King to be a bit rusty, but it was the experienced Hill that was the biggest dud tonight.

We had some momentum in the second quarter and thanks to the likes of Hill (with his shocking kicking) and piss poor efforts from our small forwards, we destroyed any chance to really ice the game.

If the player kicks it from the square it's considered a team stat. If the player runs out of the square, they get a disposal.

I saw it the same way, but funnily enough gave Howard 5 votes haha.

His opponents do get clear of him regularly.
His marks were largely thanks to Wilkie blocking.
His touches mostly from kickouts I would think.

He still had a good night though.

This is where good teammates make each other play better. You want guys like Wilkie next to you. Highmore will be another one. Steele, Bytel, Ryder, Marshall. Guys that actually take heat to put others in better positions.

Had an amazing game. Made a couple of errors but otherwise, his effort was incredible and his work rate off the charts. Nobody else down there was trying half as hard.

His best game. Honestly, he did the work of about three players and hardly seemed to come off the field. What an effort with virtually zero support.

Did you read my post?
He got beaten on the lead every time.
His direct oppo kept missing goals, which helps him look better.
And Dougal got heaps of support from Wilkie for a start.

His 8 marks were taken because Wilkie and Dougal have a double-team tactic, where Wilkie bustles in the pack and just before the ball arrives, he absorbs oppo fwds' body pressure, which unbalances them, allowing Dougal to take a nice mark over the back.
Something they've rehearsed in training hundreds of times.
Will never be recorded as a stat, but it's great defence tactic.
Watch carefully next time.

If the player kicks it from the square it's considered a team stat. If the player runs out of the square, they get a disposal.
If they kick it from within goal square with the nearest player 15 metres away from the goal square on the blue spot it should go down as a negative stat.

The 50 metre arc was first introduced for the benefit of the crowd so they had some perspective of the range to goal.
Players soon learned to use it to judge if they could make the distance.
Now it has morphed to confine 6 players at each end at centre square bounces.
It now is used to require someone man the mark and stand if the mark is inside attacking 50.

On the other hand the goal square has diminished in importance.
It's primary use now is to call play on when the player kicking in crosses the line.

The imaginary arc 15metres out from the goal square around to the boundary 15 metres from the behind posts is destined to be marked on the ground one day soon to help the umpires.

We are desperate for another tall KPP. Wilkie and Highmore aren't the answer. I'd play OC. At least see what the kids got otherwise why keep him on the list? If Carlise is fit them he plays I guess but I've got a feeling he's on the outer with the coaches.

Oh and keeping playing Bytel. FFS. We need a midfield bull and he's got something. Crouch in this week is a definite plus.

Wilkie n Dougal get beaten on the lead, and one-on-one, all the time.

Read my OP about Dougal's pack marks.
That's their strength.
These 2 are a double act

Dougals best game for club by far, and the best game by a St Kilda key defender since Sam Fisher was playing.

No, he got beaten one on one several times, his oppo got a few metres break and got a lace-out pass.
Several easy Dees goals went begging.
Made him look better than he was

Come on, all you Dougal fanbois.

He isn't a quality defender.
His pack marks over the back are wonderful- but guess what: Coffield and Wilkie are well drilled at putting body on the others in the pack, just before ball arrives.
The bodywork unsettles their jump and balance.
Without giving away a free kick.
It's rehearsed at training hundreds of times.

Ok, Dougal is just an ordinary backman.
He gets beaten, usually, one-on-one.
He gets led to the ball by his opponent, we see him 5-10m behind.

He's not Alex Rance combined with Dane Rampe

AFL app gives him 56 points, they have him 11th on our list.

And Ross got only 9 kicks+9 handballs, that's really poor indeed

Got plenty of soft touches last week that padded his stats and fooled a few people, got touched up today by an ordinary player.
