Brad Hill should take kick ins

Post: # 1897240Post wskin »

A mate mentioned to me that this could be a good idea. Gives him some easy ball to get his confidence up, utilises his elite skills and run (could run 20m+ each time) and takes the ball out of Dougals hands who is prone to some shockers. Thoughts? I know we want him delivering the ball into the forward line, but I still think it’s worthwhile giving it a go.
Also, keep your Brad Hill bashing and negativity off this thread. There’s enough of that s*** on this site as it is.

I actually don’t mind this.
Gives him a chance to take it on.
Plus, our kick in aren’t working at the moment, so something needs to be tried.

Yeah, couldn't be worse than Howard's kick ins.

Howard.
Sees 4 or 5 options within range, Saints who are on their own, e.g. Skunk or Battle with nearest oppo 35m away...
waits until oppo gets to those guys, then decides to kick long to a group of 7-8 guys including Max Gawn, Nic Nat, etc.
Howard, get your act together

2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Would be ideal for Hill, as no opponent is allowed within 20m...

Good kick.
Fast,

So he might cause the opposition defense a concern about how to patrol the area and prevent him from running out. (although the rules now might prevent that?)

Create some misdirection and confusion for the other team, try cut back inside to hit a target in the corridor. Beats just heaving it down the line every time.

isnt he meant to be our 800k link man into the forward line?
it will be hard for him to in the two positions at the same time

Makes sense. Offers Howard as a marking target as well.

Nope. Have a different idea. Most of the kick ins across all sides involves running to the 35 and a long kick to the wing forward of centre. Why not get the best torp exponent and barrel it 30m further?

The trouble with Hill taking the kick ins would be when the ball rebounds back to the hot spot. He has no defensive game and would be exploited on turn over.

At least some of the time

Dougal is predictable and when he goes short he f*** it up

We should have three or four options to kick in

I would think Wilkie and Sincs could also take them

If Hill isn’t taking it, he should be a short option, and the play on and get us to the wing

Hill needs to be a link player so he needs to be a bit further up the ground.

Howard usually goes long but there's no one to kick it to with both recognised ruckman out.

Remember when BJ and Dal used to do the kick-outs. They where the days.

The idea is that he wouldn't turn it over being such a good kick

He could then sprint to the opposite wing which could cause havoc within the opposition ranks as we feign to switch and several go to man him up which may then opens up other options

Damn coaching is so easy

Yeah this.

The freakin ruck situation has hamstrung us like nothing else.

Hill shouldnt do kick ins. Howard should be getting the ball out to the rucks or a marking target who at least create a contest and it should end up in Hill's hands where he can actually use his kicking... But ffs even that's been off.

Hill will come good. Nothing surer.

Also helps a little when you dont have everyone ten steps ahead of the ball.

Otherwise known as frontrunning.

Now there’s someone thinking logically. I like it

If we are going to bomb it to the defensive wing we need talls there and preferably one of them acts as a decoy ( so they’re not competing with each other). Have Carlisle and Howard as the marking targets if Hill or Webster or Coffield take the kick ins

The_Dud also made sense with his comment. Hill will have more time to dispose the footy than if he just received a handball in general play

this is quite a reasonable and common sense idea, having Jake and Dougal being marking targets.
I wonder if Ratts n co don't want Dougal and Jake away from defence, in case we turn it over, and we're then exposed with no big KPP in defence.

But geezus, if we're 8 goals down, nothing to lose, just try it for god's sake.
Also, if we are struggling to get through to our fwd line, and the game is like the start of the 2nd qtr last week, try this tactic- it could very well get us back into a game.

I can see it now, Jake and Dougal on separate wings...Hill kicks in, one of them gets it, then perfect lace out pass to King or Skunk, then a goal- coast to coast without oppo touching it (correction: if King gets it, probably a behind)

Damn coaching is so easy
Hill nailing the kick
Opposition doesnt intercept predictable play
Our receiver doesnt spill the ball
Hill sprinting to opposite wing

Sounds like you have been playing too much PS5
