Re: Geary and McKernan for Marshall and Highmore
I am on record as *always* calling Gears a big liability due to turnovers and poor decisions with disposals (just IMHO)
But for this game, he is the most valuable inclusion.
Just his desire and heart, will do wonders.
If his standing amongst the squad is true (seen as Thor or Ironman) then the guys will play above themselves.
Odds were over $3, he will shorten the odds, for me
(Edit- odds on sportsbet now $4 ? What gives?)

2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Re: Geary and McKernan for Marshall and Highmore
Look I think we are a big chance on Saturday
But why McKernan and why Frawley
Bulldogs have 1 ruck and then use Josh Bruce, so why do we need Mckernan, and where does all this leave Battle
Bulldogs fwd line is for the most part small and FAST .. JJ,weight man, McNeill, Scott.. So where does our big 3 defenders fit in there
I think the mix looks all wrong

Re: Geary and McKernan for Marshall and Highmore
We don't want Ryder to get injured. He's so valuable we can't afford to run him into the ground. So McKernan plays. Very will probably get the job on Daniel. The Dogs midfield is just incredible. I can't see how we can possibly match them. Bytel and Byrnes should learn plenty on Saturday night.

Re: Geary and McKernan for Marshall and Highmore
Frawley gave up a goal last week by looking like a debutante rather than a flag-winning player.
Then post-game, had fun times with Cat Isaac Smith..
Reminds me of my social indoor cricket in the 90s.
A bit of hit n giggle. Didn't take it seriously.
He couldn't have been 'hurting as much as the fans, if not more' as is oft quoted by one ITK

Re: Geary and McKernan for Marshall and Highmore
If Frawley is just playing for party pies and footy franks it is a worry, otherwise I’m OK with him in, and perhaps he was given a serious re-calibration.. I hope he is more Steve Waugh than Mark.
McKernan needs to help Paddy ..if I believe the commentators last week who bemoaned the fact that Paddy was cooking in the last quarter after Marshall got de-hollared.
We gotta-lotta mediocrity goin’ on tho.
1) Geary who is too say? It ‘feels’ good now, but..
2) Hate to say it, cause I reckon Lonie gets whacked too easily around here, but he hasn’t performed
3) Bytel and Byrnes
4) Battle - his name tells his situation right now
5) ????
That said, prepare for the Renaissance!! Man your guns!

I know he’s probably not AFL standard but I’d prefer they play Hunter than ‘slips through his fingers’.

Disappointed for Highmore... thought he did ok.
Looks promising. Certainly a better prospect then a few other, more hyped prospects.
Still reckon ppl are being harsh on Frawley. Did a great job on Hawkins

Re: Geary and McKernan for Marshall and Highmore
Frawley was excellent defensively last week glad he’s in. McKernan is not likely to have a blinder but at least he gives our forward half structure and valuable back up for Ryder.

What odds Frawley gets injured this week ?MickThomas wrote: ↑Thu 20 May 2021 7:31pm I am on record as *always* calling Gears a big liability due to turnovers and poor decisions with disposals (just IMHO)

After such a long time on the sidelines I think his body will struggle this week.
That’s an exotic bet I would chuck a few bucks on.

These changes make for a significantly worse side.
My kingdom for a Marshall, to quote Shakespeare.
For the want of two rucks, Gresham, Paton, Jones a season was lost.

I am bracing myself..
I’m talking output wise...
Nobody expects much..seriously do they? Compared to the WB mids?
They seems to have a lot of upside and a big future...but I am wary. Promising young lads syndrome..
The latter one is not yet a mature AFL player..He’s barely played period. Big ask.
The former is way further down the road, but isn’t it fair to say, he is still an average mid with potential to be very good.

Re: Geary and McKernan for Marshall and Highmore
With regards to McKernan the only thing I can think of is we want to expose the fact the Dogs only have one genuine ruck and we seem to be better balanced when Paddy and RoMa work as a combo. Time will tell. Mckernan was recruited for weeks like this when one of our first choice R7cks are out.terry smith rules wrote: ↑Thu 20 May 2021 7:38pm Look I think we are a big chance on Saturday

Yeah Frawley is an interesting one.
I'm bullish though.

Re: Geary and McKernan for Marshall and Highmore
I’ve been very pleased with both Byrnes and Bytel - both seem to be growing confidence and touch with every week and I’d love to see them in for the remainder of the year. Just wish we had a few more. I know we have injuries but we seem to be lacking real depth. That said hannas, Paton, gresh, Marshall, Jones all out really hurts our mid stocks

Re: Geary and McKernan for Marshall and Highmore
I trust the selectors to know what they're doing and I agree that McKernan will be important to assist Ryder.
Dominating the stoppages is going to go a long way to beating the Dogs, and whilst I'm not a fan of Geary I agree that the players will welcome his return and for him to do a job on either Daniel or Johannisen.
Players will be very aware that this is a massive game in the context of what they want to achieve this year and I'm sure they will be as ferocious and uncompromising on containing the Dogs as they did last week against the Cats, and have a strong win.
