I'd never been camping before that, and had never wanted to.
But it was actually a lot of fun, sleeping under a 'hootchie' in the middle of winter

Army rations are all in tins, and having constipation for 5 days wasn't nice
I found out you could go 5 days without a shower quite easily.
On the last day, did the obstacle course and being fully caked in mud, etc, we returned to the barracks for a much needed first shower in 5 days.
The ladies showered first, and used up ALL the hot water getting mud outta the long hair.

Having a cold shower in winter was something done by visiting teams at Moorabbin for decades
I remember being covered in leeches from wading in muddy creeks and one of our guys being covered in s*** from diving in a trench latrine after the CMF guys began chasing us and throwing those tennis ball shaped bangers at us.

No one would go near him and he ended up quite sick and in hospital.

Loved the shooting range though, where we got to shoot our .303's, and the army's Bren guns and Vickkers machine guns.

We lived in Nissan huts and got to fill our own paliases with straw,

The f****** Brothers went out of their way to ruin the experience for us all though. There wasn't much team building going on apart from a them and us theme.

Interested to hear of your experience though.

We each had a gun or pistol for the camp, and had to strip and clean it each night.
I had an L1A1 rifle that I proudly carted around. I think it was the successor to the 0.303.
On the range, we each got to use all the guns, including a hand-held machine gun (M50?) that had a barrel with an outer pipe that had holes all around for cooling. On automatic, it wanted to rotate in your hands

Never had any leeches, the only water was at the obstacle course, that woulda been horrible.

I fully understand the Brothers thing, as I went to CBC about 2-3 years ahead of Eddie Maguire. Never ever met him.
Brothers could be incredibly harsh n overbearing, their attitude was always that boys were like feisty horses that needed to be whipped into shape, and what u say exactly fits their own standards. I reckon they wanna punish boys for their own life choices of the cloth, like 'I'm miserable, so i'm gonna make you unhappy too'.
Remember that 'give me a boy for 5 years, and I'll give u a man for life' or something.

The military with us were all NCOs, no officers.
These folk were career desk jockeys, had absorbed the public service ethos of 'near enough is good enough' and cruising a bit (like Benny Hill).
They did get us up at 5am each day by starting a 5-ton truck and leaning on the horn for half a minute, giving us a strict time-frame to get up and organize ourselves.

Sure.
I visited a psychic a few years ago, at the urging of my then-partner.
Psychic was equally as vague.
Cheers for the lack of detail.

Benny Hill.

His feelings have been hurt
:o
Might need to fly to Perth to visit family to whine about being bullied.
Oh wait...nobody from Vic is allowed to visit Perth

That’s disappointing. Obviously for the reason that we can’t afford to lose another good player, but also because it’s an out for the selection committee. Every opportunity they’ve had over the last 2 years to make a statement or follow through with some selection integrity they’ve squibbed

One year at Pucka, one of the cadets was using a target drawn on one of the hut walls for target practice with his bayonet until one of the brothers who had some sort of officer status in the cadets, caught him

He lined us all in on the parade ground and made the cadet bend over and then started whacking him on the arse with his wooden baton or swagger stick until the poor kids nose bleed like a leaking tap.

A horrible memory imprinted on my mind even some 60 years later.

Bet the kid had hatred imprinted on his mind as well as welts on his butt.

Yeah they were cruel bastards. De la Salle Brothers , nothing Christian about them at all.

Lol
The changes are absolutely pathetic

Weak pricks
Culture destroying the Bytel gets dropped and Hill remains!!
WTF
Simply affirming if you go half paced and don’t care it doesn’t matter at the Saints! Dropping Hill this week would have sent a massive message, especially this round.

Weak jellyfish pricks

McKernan and Frawley should have stayed retired. Absolutely no place for them in the team. Time for Clavarino to have 5 games in a row to see if he can make it. I don't mind Bytel being dropped. Butler should have been dropped also. No point dropping Hill if he'd getting 800k a year. It doesn't make sense. He could play a blinder and be the difference.

Don't disagree although butler should have gone before Bytel. Although once Lonnie was dropped Butler was safe....at least for this week.

Changes are not significant but I suspect that a couple were saved by Clark's injury. Still could have gone deeper. I'm not sure a win against the Kangaroos helps anyone's credibility, just another finger in the dyke.

Good luck Clav, long overdue. Wish your mate Leo was in there with you.

Can you still say that these days?

Yeah Leo is a bit stiff.
