Lyon Pulls out
It's being reported that Ross Lyon has pulled out of the Carlton coaching race.
Doesn't believe he should have to go through the "process".

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Big head much?
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Lyon Pulls out
If it's true then I think he is right.
My understanding is that he was approached by someone at Carlton to gauge whether he's take on the job.
Caro is reporting (yesterday) that Brian Cook, the CEO of Geelong (who's leaving at the end of this season), had been approached about the Carlton CEO job. Would we expect him to have to go through the 'process' of interviews etc. before being appointed?
They've approached Clarkson too - does he need to produce a powerpoint presentation and sit through a multitude of interviews/tests too?
Lyon is an established coach - if he's approached by them then why does he need to subject himself to all this?
He's not applying for the job - they're coming to him.

Re: Lyon Pulls out
As I said in the GT thread when the news broke..
I think this helps his reputation. He looks slightly redeemed and I expect his hairline to continue to improve over summer...or will Classified also sack him? Did they press him to 'give them more juice' and he obliged and poisoned his own well for Carlton.
I actually felt something for him when he was digesting the news that process was now (again) on the agenda...And didn't Eddie just pile on! ...with his usual cheesy smile.('conga line BS) ...Eddie is very happy that Llyon went to the wolves and stoked the furnace to burn him on Classified weeks back by alluding - obliquely as usual - to how Carlton must call him, and he is front page news etc., etc., affecting embarrassment for Calrton whilst patronising them in the process.
And it's good news for us. Carlton would be a direct competitor for us for a final 8 spot next year with Llyon.

Re: Lyon Pulls out
Smart move.
RL stocks dropped substantially at Freo after he ran his second list into the ground in the manner that he did
He’ll only get one more crack at a coaching gig if he produces the same results as before... take a finals hardened team to have a serious crack at a flag and then destroy the list without a flag
Given his documented history of being a poor developmental coach, his best shot is to wait for an opportunity to take a seasoned list all the way... that’s not Carlton. They’re a developing list.
Looking at the current contenders...
GWS seems to be a good fit or spectacular failures at Port, Geelong or to a much lesser degree Brisbane may leave management wondering if they can take the next step with the current direction.
Will be an interesting watch

Probably similar to the process he went through at Collingwood.Vortex wrote: ↑Thu 02 Sep 2021 5:42pmGee this really does make the club look like it's being run by ametuers.Mr Magic wrote: ↑Thu 02 Sep 2021 5:13pm If it's true then I think he is right.

Re: Lyon Pulls out
I reckon Carlton is a list primed!
Weitering, Cripps, Walsh, McKay, Curnow.
Great job IMO
He was too arrogant to interview
Just wanted to be given the job

Re: Lyon Pulls out
They’ve finished
13th
11th
16th
18th
The last 4 years.
They may be primed but they ain’t finals hardened and haven’t sustained good form.
Goes outside his MO
I bet RL never intended to take this job… rather he made some noise to see if he could pressure a better suitor into action…
Also his MO. Exactly what he did with us

Re: Lyon Pulls out
Ross was worried that he might have to come up with some three-syllable words. He is without the doubt the most inarticulate speaker I have heard. He sounds like kid from Reservoir who failed year 11.......oh wait a minute......

Re: Lyon Pulls out
Ross read the tea-leaves.
If you're going to put an established coach through a process it means you don't really want him.
But it will make the real appointee -- Kingsley? -- look good.
See you next Tuesday, Carlton.
I'm one of those who thinks the Blues have a very good but underperforming list in dire need of some defensive skills.
Ross would have just the answer.
The club is now, without a doubt, run by clowns.

Re: Lyon Pulls out
They're not going to get Clarkson, well not for next season and who would want to take on a job for only 12 months.
Carlton have painted themselves into a corner and this could get ugly.

There is meant to be a board challenge being organised at Carlton as well, just gets better and better.

Re: Lyon Pulls out
Maybe Ross wanted money that Carlton couldn't, and wouldn't pay, and he's playing the 'process' card. The Dockers paid him a king's ransom and I think Ross believes he's worth it.
