According to SEN he is now off our radar
Too much money and cost in trade.
But I would be interested in what we think would actually serve the list better:
Ladhams or Seb Ross?
Ladhhams looks a quality ruck forward who can't break in for games at Port, and we only really have Hunter and Heath in reserve. One is too young and the other is ordinary at best.
Seb is on a gradual decline and we have several players to cover his spot.
I just reckon we might want to consider list balance.
Surely trading / delisting Lonie, Hunter possibly Long and or Ross would free up enough dollars and trade value for Ladhams.
Thoughts?
Chalk and cheese mate. One is af 2 time best anf fairest winner, the other a fringe player at best
He may be a 2 time best & fairest winner, but it was during a rather terrible stretch for our club. Sort of like the “best house on the worst street”. Wasn’t in the best 20 midfielders in the league at the time.
Unlike a more recent winner like Steele, who was an All Australian in the same years that he has won.
Of course they're chalk and cheese, but that why I ask the question.
Which one is actually going to be best value on the list.
A fading albeit still good Ross who is fighting it out with provably 3-4 younger midfielder for that last spot....or a 23 year old ruckman just entering his prime years?
If Paddy or Roma go down we lose all structure and centre drive.
I'd prefer Ladhams than Seb Ross with all due respect to the champ.

We’re really into Peter Ladhams, the sticking point however is trade capital. We almost certainly have to trade out to gain capital which means Ben Long may have played for the Saints for the last time.

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit!
Not at all sarcastic
He's won 2 TBAs and has been a very good player for us in an indifferent era..
The point of this thread is not to have a go at Seb Ross, it is to ask whether he, for instance, would be better for list balance than a 23 year old ruckman.
Tough to even raise it as a topic without people taking g offence.
And yet we seem pretty happy to let him explore his options elsewhere. Certainly not bending over to hang onto him, which tells me that they are at that point where they see Seb as being on the edge of the top 22.
Steele
Crouch
Jones
Gresham
Preferred ahead of him
My guess is Clark, Bytel and Byrnes breathing down his neck.
DMacs re emergence filling that defensive wing spot
Paton, Sinclair and Webster better options for backline...
He is obviously no longer considered crucial and there aren't too many suitors.
Yes we want midfielder in the draft, but the search is for young mids with elite talent. Hopefully pick 9(11), and then a couple of the promising NGAs. With the compromised draft we might be able to pull a good prospect with a later pick.
As for Ladhams knows he'll get games with us next year and certainly 2023 onwards.
Future second rounder might do it.
I reckon we'll think about it if the asking price comes down.
Otherwise you'll be seeing more of your mate Hunter doing his walking against the wind impression a few more times next year.
Seb polled 14 Brownlow votes in 2017 and he's a world beater, Dunstan polled 11 Brownlow votes in 2021 and he's nothing but shite, makes a lot of sense, to someone.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Definitely wouldn’t trade in next years draft capital!
McKenzie better than Ross… even he would laugh at that notion!!!
I agree, it would be folly to trade next year's draft picks.
Where was it said that McKenzie is better than Ross. Preferred as a defensive wing. On recent form, that's a fair comment.
We have holes that need filling. We have our fingers crossed to improve our midfield with youth. What is that really saying to Ross & about Ross? The contract in front of him must not be that attractive. We need a ruck for 2023. Another key position back would be nice.
I suggest we hold off on Ladhams until next trade period. Port will screw themselves. Maybe pinch Clurey whilst they are guarding Ladhams.

He does seem like an ideal recruit for our list both in terms of emerging talent, depth and list balance
We know categorically that we’re 100% better team with both Marshall and Ryder on the park but that Paddy is playing in his last season and both had injury prone seasons.
I have heard from a source inside his family that Paddy has every intention and has planned for trying to play 300 games. Currently on 269, that means 2 more seasons.
If he is managed wisely and Heath shows any promise this preseason and we really are a chance to get Bing next year, then I can't see why he won't.

Seb has an offer of a two year contract with an option of a third on the table.
Agree Saynta, he and his manager are obviously looking for more. I think he will get a reality check and be forced to take the Saints offer, which will be his market value.
No-one has come running for Dunstan yet. Seb Ross needs to look at that and realise that his options remain within his football club not outside of it. I think he's a valuable player, but I doubt he's what other clubs are looking for. Bad time to be an inside mid looking for a new home. Carlton have just signed up George Hewett, so they'll be out of the picture. How many other clubs may have been looking for a 28 year old inside mid wanting a three year deal on decent money? I'm guessing none.
Mahoney from Essendon implied his club valued Luke on SEN. I suppose everyone is keeping their cards close now except for the RKelly transfer. Sorry J Kelly, not implying anything untoward Dons.

We have already desisted Carlisle, Frawley and McKernan
Hannaberry has taken a haircut....
it surely adds up to a back up ruckman unless we are actually over the cap

Dons not interested
GC are but rookie only they have cap issues
Hope he goes to Dons - with him and Shiel bombing it of the middle interceptors will be licking their chops
This might sound dumb to some but I would like to have 3 decent ruckman/ forward and rotate them both Roma and Paddy missed a few games last year and probably came back in early due to necessity each could do with a rest through the year . Like 97 grand final Cook played sofa that year
