As would Hunter Clark
You talk Gresham up but I dont think he has announced himself as an A grade or elite player yet.

Just checked the 2017 list..yeah the one that won 11 games (read : 11 equals one more game than we won in 2021) !

47 names...and now, in November 2021, only 11 of those names remain, including fringe players Joyce, McKenzie and non-player Geary.

Coach gone too.

Mnnnnn.....

That would just take the cake

If Paddy goes to Sydney and becomes the player he was meant to be with StK

Gresham kicked 35 goals in his third year

Is a first choice midfielder

And without injury

Is a gun

BM,

not having a go or anything, but seriously, what makes you think Gresh is a first choice midfielder?

he says he WANTS to play mid, but has he ever done it successfully, and I mean so successfully that it more than offsets the opportunity if having a 35 goal forward sneak?

billings peaked in 2015. never reached such lofty heights again relative to his experience, gresham likewise in 2018, clark hasn't peaked, but i'm staring to doubt he will.
none are top ten from their respective years. all should be. all three were unfortunate to be drafted to the saints in the richo years. missed out on a top class development.
what they are hopefully are solid first team players, but we need some class, hence the massive overpay for hannas and hill, which looks to have backfired a bit. still, everything can change in a year - richmond in 2017 on the back of only three genuine stars. i'm still hoping those three will suddenly click. forlornly likely.

Name other HFs in the comp that average over 20 and a goal per game?

Of course he’s no Bontempelli… , he is equal No 1 player in the game!!!

What a stupid comparison

BTW
Billings peaked in 2018 where he finished 4th in the B&F not 2015

Gresham will most definitely be a starting mid in ‘22

stfiddler wrote: Mon 08 Nov 2021 11:55am That is depressing reading. Every one of our top ten picks has slid out of the top ten. Not one has advanced a ranking. Only one has maintained their position and even his twin brother has leapfrogged him. Not only does this obviously affect our ability to win games but the lack of star power seriously impacts the saleability of the club, particularly with kids. These mistakes last decades.

So let me get this clear....

1) he went into the midfield in 2019?
2) it was better for the team overall to have him there? (yes, he did well individually, but what about the team?)
3) Facial injury in 2020..until then did very well ...as a mid? ...as did St Kilda. St Kilda looked markedly weaker until recovering at the very end of the season.
4) 2021 Round three: achilies...

Now what does 4) really mean?

https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/1 ... 7120966041

Our study found that 72.3% of NBA players returned to play after Achilles tendon repair, but they had shorter careers compared with uninjured controls. Players returning from Achilles tendon repairs had decreased game utilization and performance at all time points relative to their individual preindex baseline. However, for the injured players when compared with controls, game utilization but not performance was found to be decreased at 3-year follow-up.

My guess..
Gresh will be a forward sneak again...if he wants a long career...and he might spend some game as a mid.

Gresh is a player we sorely missed in 2021 and will be an important member of the team in 2022, whether he plays forward or as a mid.

Right there. That’s what’s wrong with St Kilda. No other club would regard Gresham as a gun. Kicking 35 goals in his 3rd year, not 1st, not 2nd , but 3rd year is a good effort but not something to be marvelled at. A great building block for something big. That something big hasn’t eventuated for numerous reasons. Injury being one of them. His disposal and decision making isn’t elite. He can be selfish with ball in hand and he’s not creative. He’s a great ball hunter who has good goal sense. Yet comments like ‘gun’ are attributed to him, if fit??? A gun would have at least been nominated for an AA squad by now. A gun would be top 3 in B&F consistently like Roo, Lenny, BJ, Dal, Steele, even Jack Steven.

Gresham has hardly played for 2 years due to injuries. In his prolonged absence he has morphed into a gun player.

I don't recall him being called a gun player when he was playing consistently prior to his horror run with injury.

I'm just hoping he gets to play consistently in 2022 and we get to see just how good he is.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

It’s a comparison of readjusted Top 10 picks in his draft year NOT a comparison of HFF FFS !
He wasn’t recruited to spend his career at HFF and so far has failed to step up into the midfield
He’s not won a B&F and goes missing in games regularly
Suggest you go back and tell me who he’s better than cause you’re in the minority of most objective football analysts with half a brain
So far against expectations Jack Billing’s has been disappointing
Let’s stop sugar coating it the guy was super well paid and just had to take a hair cause EVERY OTHER AFL club wouldn’t pay him what Saints previously had (based off expectations..)
He’s solid B grader on his day
And yep stupid for anyone to compare him to a consistent match winner in the Bont...embarrassing really..

Thanks for that information about Archilles injuries and basketball players. I suspect it has no relevance for football which is played on a completely different surface.
My guess: Gresham will play mid when fit again.
