Sunday - Hawks
Fwiw, Carlton friend told me Mitchell played an extra behind the ball after quarter time then on the turnover went fast. Says Hawthorn young guys (ex Box Hill) are quick and skillful. Caused Carlton to start second guessing and make poor choices.
Looks like a coach duel coming.
I think we are underrated quick but kicking efficiency needs improvement.
I also think we may be too strong physically and MCG will suit.
May rest Hayes to add speed, but hope not.
Too optimistic? Too simplistic?

MCG is exposed to weather, Marvel different surface, closed roof, not sure if a factor.
Coaching duel?
I think Corey Enright would bring new ideas.
Ratts out-coached Softwick (IMHO) and I think coaching moves will be a huge factor in the result.

Re: Sunday - Hawks
We should beat the hawks comfortably by 30+ points.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

Re: Sunday - Hawks
I’ll go 20-30 point win
That second half of last week is the turning point in my opinion.
It showed me that we have a maturity to trust in the coach and trust in the personnel. Do not be fooled! We are a tough team to play against and we have some hard bodies and we defend well. As everyone knows, if your defensive unit is strong, you can build a premiership team around that.
We have a good leadership group supporting a relatively young captain who is growing in the role.
We have senior players who are starting to be selfless and they’re making good decisions that benefit the team. That will create a good culture and the senior players like Crouch, Ryder, and Hill have been great role models for our youngsters and other emerging leaders

I hope you're right JB, if we can beat Hawthorn by that amount with best 22 players to return we then become a serious threat for the Top 8 & Finals.

Gunston is very dangerous. We need a sound strategy to keep him as quiet as possible.

Re: Sunday - Hawks
Crystal balling a bit here but a win tomorrow really sets up our season. We have GC, GWS and Port after. We'd have to be favourites at this stage in all 3. Then Melb, Adelaide, Cats and North before the bye.
I have us 8-3 by the bye!! A win against either Melb or Cats and we're gold!!
History says the ladder doesn't change much after the bye so we really have a great opportunity to play finals this year if we can string these wins together.

Re: Sunday - Hawks
Tomorrow is must win. If we are going to be any good this season, win our 12 matches and get our percentage to over 100% and play finals in 2022, this is a match we have to win. On the MCG, against a side tipped to finish bottom 6, and probably will finish bottom 6, we must beat them twice this season to be a finalist this year.stkfc1 wrote: ↑Sat 09 Apr 2022 7:38pm Crystal balling a bit here but a win tomorrow really sets up our season. GC and GWS are sides we usually beat and as such, are extremely winnable, Port and Adelaide both interstate probably not going by past history, and same with Geelong.
We are a real chance against Melbourne though as we match up well on them. even at the G. Against North at Marvel we should aim to build percentage against - 100 points +.
Realistically I think we can be 7-5 by the bye.

Re: Sunday - Hawks
Correct. They are not easy beats - but we have a good record against Hawthorn since 2016 - and those teams had better players than the 2022 version. We must play four quarters tomorrow. But I think we will.

Re: Sunday - Hawks
Just look at the Eagles Collingwood game for an example . Eagles undermanned & at times seemed to be slipping out of the contest but kept presenting & eventually got up & won. Lets not do what Collingwood did & make the most of your opportunities when you get them or you might just get rolled . IMO we should win but we all know how that can change pretty quickly if we don't come to play.

We don’t seem to be able to get on our bike until about half time so all we need to do is keep the opposition score down to a minimum for the first half.

It might be a case of not following team rules correctly, until the half-time reality check, or...The Fireman wrote: ↑Sat 09 Apr 2022 10:10pm We don’t seem to be able to get on our bike until about half time so all we need to do is keep the opposition score down to a minimum for the first half.
tactics not working in the first half, so 1/2 time the changes are made e.g. moving Hill out of the backline and moving others around
or...who knows

Re: Sunday - Hawks
The expectation today must be a win.
There can be no acceptance of a loss at the MCG today.
This week (and next week against the Suns) are games we must win if we are fair dinkum and are going to improve.
No excuses, and for those who think that our injuries are an excuse, my counter argument is that it gives other players their opportunity.

Re: Sunday - Hawks
Hawthorn have been a bit the same. They have only lost four games out of their last eleven, but two of the games they didn't lose were draws. The Fireman wrote: ↑Sat 09 Apr 2022 10:10pm We don’t seem to be able to get on our bike until about half time so all we need to do is keep the opposition score down to a minimum for the first half.
So they have won five games out of their last eleven starts.
It starts in the ruck and that is where I think we hold a massive ascendency, and King should have a big day too.
