I remember he was very good a couple of years ago, then we had a Geelong game and they tagged him heavily and we lost our outside run and lost the game- I think a lot of teams looked at that since. I don't reckon he has played as well since he had a head knock a while back.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Sun 12 Jun 2022 7:44pm Trade Jones to Norf for a nice draft pick.
Jones was pretty good 2 yrs ago, hasn't done much since

Re: Zac Jones’ durability!
It’s a worry, apart from Steele and Crouch it doesn’t look like there’s much to our midfield at the moment, until a young bloke comes on.
Desperately need to trade in a ready-to-go class midfielder.

Re: Zac Jones’ durability!
I think he is a very good player myself. He makes things happen.
Hard as a cat's head and wins his own footy, can play inside and outside, deliver the ball well into our forward line and moves the ball quickly.
Ripping player.
He may not be out after this week; he didn't seem to be badly injured Saturday night. He was smiling in the stand watching the game in the last quarter, you don't do that if you are badly injured and might miss weeks.
I think it is probably more precautionary because of his history.
EDIT: Just rewatched Ratten's press conference and he made the comment on Jones that he'd be unlikely to play in 6 days after a hamstring, so reading between the lines it looks like a short term injury. Maybe miss this week against Essendon and back the next perhaps. Gives someone else their chance.

I don’t think there’s much question over whether or not he’s good enough.samuraisaint wrote: ↑Mon 13 Jun 2022 3:43pm I think he is a very good player myself. He makes things happen.

Personally I think he’s first rate.
I agree that his form has been down so far but my sense was that he was just working up his fitness in the 1s and was doing ok.
Saturday night I thought he was alright and felt comfortable at 3/4 time that we had enough in the engine to run the game out until news of his hamstring surfaced.
The issue for me is what I said in the OP. He just never seems to stay on the park.
6 hamstrings
Personal issue at the start of the season
And he’s had other injuries too
I feel like he rarely strings more than 3-4 games without going down

Re: Zac Jones’ durability!
They should give him a long rest. Bring him back in round 20 so he is raring to go for the finals (if we make it). That will give him 4 games to get match fit before finals.
If he has a mini pre-season now and all goes to plan and we make finals then we are laughing.
St Kilda should never trade with Essendon and Sydney ever again!!!

Re: Zac Jones’ durability!
Ok Saints website saying
Scans have also cleared Zak Jones of any hamstring injury following a complaint which kept him out of the final quarter.
Jones will undergo a number of tests at training this week to determine his availability
That's good news

That’s great news. It will also make selection a bit harder.

No update but with his recent history, if they play him this week they are dicing with death.Devilhead wrote: ↑Mon 13 Jun 2022 8:18pmOk so you don't have any updateSunnyErnie wrote: ↑Mon 13 Jun 2022 8:00pmThey should give him a long rest. Interesting. I hate it because it pbly cost us 4 points but given the circumstances... it was pbly the right thing to do

Re: Zac Jones’ durability!
Ratts said in the presser after the game it would be unlikely he would play because of the 6 day turnaround.
Great news it is not a hamstring injury, but think Clark and Byrnes need to play Friday night regardless.
I would say Billings should come in based on his stats in the reserves too.

Re: Zac Jones’ durability!
Back in January I happened across Zac running on the road near to where I live and wondered whether the club knew of and approved of him running on the hard surface given his hamstring issues.
I haven’t seen him out running the streets since so perhaps it’s completely unrelated but I recall a young Robert Harvey being banned from this activity to help overcome his susceptibility to hamstring strains early in his career.
I hope Jones can get his troublesome ‘hammies’ under control as he is a vital ingredient to a midfield that needs all its components fit and firing.

Re: Zac Jones’ durability!
I'm no expert but just based on my experience, I'd say it's more to do with lack of flexibility rather than where he's running.
Posture could be an issue and sitting for too long is one of the main causes imho. They need to be constantly stretching (at every opportunity all year round) to prevent hamstring problems and muscle tears at training and during games
The hard surfaces are more likely to create hot spots on feet/bones/shin splints or put stress on hips/knees and maybe not too good for the spine as well

Re: Zac Jones’ durability!
No physio either, but I believe scarring in the muscle changes the load/balance/spread etc. so instead of having one spring, you have two or three smaller springs on top of each other.Scollop wrote: ↑Tue 14 Jun 2022 3:33am I'm no expert but just based on my experience, I'd say it's more to do with lack of flexibility rather than where he's running.

If that sounds like a load of BS, it probably is.
But no doubt, we have seen, one hammyeads to another, to another. It makes Banger’s career seem all the more remarkable.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!
