Re: Geary has retired
Thanks Gear's for all the blood sweat and tears you shed for this club.
Happy that you got to play in a winning finals' side.

Re: Geary has retired
Yep thanks Gears
Hard act to follow after Roo..
Then the whole post Ross malaise, Seaford, Richie, scandals of Carlisle and others, a new age for players, the pressures of GWS and Gold Coast favourtism, the pressure on North, WB and St Kilda, decking crowds, COVID, turmoil..
Well done for keeping your back up straight!
Congrats on a career!

Thankyou Gears. A fine example of getting the most from oneself. All the best for the future.

Certainly got way more out of himself than the majority of the other 134 potatoes we drafted since 2003. Stunning career when you consider Gears' talent limitations. Gold standard for hard work and doing everything to give yourself the best possible chance.
Go you red, black & white warriors

Sheer determination and single mindedness. Most players with his ability don't make. Best mates with Joel Selwood. Grew up playing footy together. Both with the same attitude.
Would be in the top 10 bravest players I've seen in a St Kilda guernsey
Has every right to be proud of his achievements

Great Saints man. Although I think the club looked after him giving him another year.

Thanks for the service. Although still think it was incredibly selfish that he collected a pay check and took a list spot knowing full well he was going nowhere near the senior side this season.

Take a hike clown. If Geary wasn't injured he'd be in the mix to play.Brunswicksainter wrote: ↑Thu 14 Jul 2022 3:44pm Thanks for the service. After what he's put himself through for this club? Seriously!?Brunswicksainter wrote: ↑Thu 14 Jul 2022 3:44pm Thanks for the service. The broken legs, injuries etc, another year's paycheck was fine by me. Bloke will have ongoing issues for thr rest of his life with the types of injuries he's sustained.
Show some respect and pull ya head in bloke.

Re: Geary has retired
I am meant to laude a player simply for getting injured often. Sure he’s a nice guy and all but we have given him more than enough opportunity for what his skill level deserved. I don’t think the club or fan base should feel indebted to him whatsoever. He’s lived his dream and been rewarded significantly for a poor leadership record and years of mediocre performancestkfc1 wrote: ↑Thu 14 Jul 2022 3:53pmAfter what he's put himself through for this club? Re: Geary has retired
He’s been close to Sandy’s worst player in every game I’ve seen him play in this season. If he’s Injured and can’t go why not announce retirement earlier and perhaps free up an extra list spot to snag a key defender in the mid season draft.CURLY wrote: ↑Thu 14 Jul 2022 3:51pmTake a hike clown. Re: Geary has retired
Hope he stays on at Sandy as Captain
Really was something special for a while there.
Might have actually been the ultimate defensive forward if they’d played him there more instead of guys like Eddy/McQualter etc
I have especially fond memories of his qualifying final game vs the Doggies.

Re: Geary has retired
If Geary had retired earlier we could have passed TWICE in the mid season draft. Re: Geary has retired
I believe he got everything out of himself.
Tough and courageous and well respected.
Not highly skilled by AFL standard or elite but always gave everything at the contest.
Very good career.
You would think he is the type that would transition well into coaching at some level.

Re: Geary has retired
If we had an extra list spot available we MAY not have passed as clearly we were restricted with our current list composition and projections moving forward. I personally feel like a strong key defender from the state leagues would have really come in handy given the lack of depth we have at full bac (even before Howard went down).kosifantutti wrote: ↑Thu 14 Jul 2022 4:12pmIf Geary had retired earlier we could have passed TWICE in the mid season draft.
