Re: our best 22 for 23 - according to the AFL
Personally I’d drop Webster and Butler from the starting 22… maybe even Wood though he finished the year strongly. Need to look at upgrading some of these ok players to good ones.
X-factor here is Jack Hayes. If he can hold down CHF and relief ruck… structurally we’re all of a sudden looking very good
I like this a bit more
Paton, Howard, Wilkie
Clark, Battle, Coffield
Dmac, Steele, Hill
Membrey, Hayes, Owens
Gresham, King, Higgins
Marshal, Sinclair, Crouch
Int: Ross, Windhager, NWM, Wood
IMO a more even spread of class along each line and players are playing where they need to as opposed to what’s comfortable
Sinclair obviously contentious but we need class mids with pace and clean disposal… he can do it… few others on this list can. Plenty of players can cover his spot down back.
Forward line looks mixed with weapons, defence is big, has run and aerial balance, different types of mids on the bench.
In retrospect with Wood… pbly adds the correct balance to this team.
By howdy… he’s one player that I would push to the moon and back if I was RL.
If Wood can maintain the form he finished the year in… elevates is a bit IMO

Re: our best 22 for 23 - according to the AFL
My hopeful starting 22 a bit short but hard running.
Clark Howard Wilkie
Billings Battle Sinclair
Hill Crouch NWM
Gresham Membrey Owens
Higgins King Jones
Marshall Steele Ross
Windhager McKenzie Wood Sharman
E: Coffield Paton Webster Campbell Hayes Cordy Butler etc
Good ball users in back half, reinvent Billings
Hard runners & good ball users on wings Hill & NWM
Use Jones as a pressure forward who can also get the ball
Definitely light on for a a back up ruckman to support Marshall if Hayes doesn’t come back strongly

I'll change it a bit - and look for a reaction!!
The side I would like to see as most competitive at the CONCLUSION of the 2023 Season is:-
Wilkie Howard Paton
Coffield Adams Battle
Hill Steele Wanganeen-Milera
Billings Heath Windhager
Membrey King Gresham
Marshall Crouch Sinclair
Clark Owens Higgins Pick 9
Peris
The development of Adams and Heath is vital.

You’ve taken a long shot Killa, Adams is a poor mans Allison and neither will make it but Heath maybe a chance. Really need to find another tall with our second round picks or in pre season or mid year drafts.

Re: our best 22 for 23 - according to the AFL
I would not be writing off any of our tall, young talent
This coming season will be vital to their development - as will be the subsequent seasons as they pass just 20 years of age
Particularly the likes of the Number 9 Draft Pick, Heath, Adams and Peris debuting in 2023 will be a positive - including because the side we can structure around them has some appeal as competitive
Rattan and Lyon see the positives
Otherwise Rattan would not have presented to keep the Head Coach role and Lyon would not be seeking it
Lyon has unfinished business and presented accordingly
He has assessed the List
And the Board accepted Rattan’s assessment of the List
It was marked at 14 in the Competition for a reason that reason being the need for those players not in our top 20 to develop and progress
The assessment was that they will develop and progress
Rattan was strong on youth development - it will be of interest to see if Lyon brings in his own development personnel to maximise the result
What I am hearing is that he will be bringing in his own development personnel

No great fan of Billings but if he's the third emergency we're doing OK.

Reckon you’re pretty much on the money..I’d also have Billings half back, with the skill of NWM & Hill on the wings.
Prefer Windhager to Ross as starting mid, as Steele, Crouch & Ross are very bland.
I like you’ve got Wilkie listed twice..wouldn’t it be great if we did have 2 of him!!
The side listed on the AFL site is based on how Ratten set up his team, tipping Ross will shake things up.

Tipping Ross won’t be able to teach Billings how to defend like Jimmy Webster

Admire your optimism with young Heath & Adams…hopefully they’ll get a couple of opportunities next season but doubt they’ll be in contention round 1.

Clark and Billings at career cross roads!!

Re: our best 22 for 23 - according to the AFL
If the season starts in March Hayes will only be 11 months into his recovery from an ACL injury, normally a 12 month recovery, might be a bit risky rushing him back.Saintmike65 wrote: ↑Mon 24 Oct 2022 11:35amfreely wrote: ↑Sun 23 Oct 2022 10:34am B: Callum Wilkie, Dougal Howard, Ben Paton
