I can't recall ever being so impressed with such a young recruit, shows maturity well beyond his years.

It's quite apparent he has a very strong footy pedigree with both his father and grandfather playing many games in SANFL.

That he was rated #2 prospect by one commentator shows how lucky St Kilda was that he slipped down to pick 10 last night:

https://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/ ... ather-sons

It is quite possible that like Windhager, Phillipou will prove to perform at a much higher ranking than some who were drafted ahead of him.

I'm not at all concerned by the view of some that he is over-confident, quite the opposite, I regard his self-assurance and belief in his own abilities to succeed as an indication that he will not take a backward step to achieve his goals. Yes he needs to prove that he can walk the talk, I'm sure he will!

Remember these are very young kids so to expect domination at AFL level from day 1 is not realistic

The skill will be there but they have to grow into their bodies such that they can compete against men who are very well seasoned

As I said, his Grandfather, Peter, was very polished - from his days at Henley High, who had a pretty fair side at the time. Henley High was our local public high school so I knew plenty who went there - and still do

I have just been reminded that Henley High were unbeaten one year with Peter in the side including winning their annual match against Blackburn High (yes, Victoria) for the first time in 4 years

The team photo and the School Magazine write up from the time have been sent to me would you believe

There always seems a reason for being reminded of life events - now who St Kilda have drafted is the catalyst to light up my phone
Henley - near Grange?
I was there in the mid sixties too.
So was Ronnie Biggs! :D

Getting back to the topic at hand , I heard Mattaes interviewed on RSN this morning . For what it is worth ( and accepting that oratory does not make a footballer ) , he was super-impressive. Great attitude. Most significantly, was very happy to talk up his fellow SA draftee Isaac Keeler .

Love that
The kids great
Yes he believes in himself but he’s not cocky he’s just confident and that’s great no point being a shrinking violet in AFL
What I really got from that was he’s driven to not only get the best out of himself but to bring team mates with him that’s leadership think as he matures he’ll command a certain level of respect and IF he reaches his potential..lookout
Also loved his attitude to loyalty- refreshing how he views a move interstate “for the opportunity it is”
Great attitude
Pumped.

It would be good to hear from the moderators in Kosi and St Byron on the issue of the SS racism policy.

Ace has been for a very long time now been able to openly persecute his vile racist hatred without consequences.

He was recently given a one week ban for racism and it wasn't recorded but sits on 2/3 bans so should have received a permanent ban. I enquired with Kosi as to why he wasn't given the permanent ban....I will let Kosi provide details around this as it was a private conversation.

The racist post by Ace in this thread was reported and St Byron closed out the report without taking any action against the racism by Ace. It would also be good to hear from St Byron about his non action.

Rasism has been tolerated by SS moderators over a very long time and as previously suggested the board rules need to be updated in line with community standards and moderated accordingly.

Ace should be given his permanent ban for his latest racist post.
