Injury update
From the age.com.au
St Kilda
"The Saints are hopeful of a return in round six or seven for star forward Max King, who is hitting key milestones in his rehab after a shoulder reconstruction. His possible replacement in the goal square, Jack Hayes, will also miss the start of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a broken left foot. Nick Coffield (ACL) had hamstring surgery last year but is expected to be available for pre-season games. Jade Gresham (knee), Josh Battle (ankle) and Zak Jones (calf) are back in full training. Draftee Olli Hotton (back stress fracture) will miss the first half of the season."
They are as bad as the hun. Allison doesn't rate a mention.

Re: Injury update
The time frame reported for Max's possible return is definitely hopeful.
I would have thought he'd be at least round 12 to 16 realistically

Re: Injury update
On average AFL players don't return to full training until around the 16 to 20 week mark, from there it can be another 4 to 8 weeks of strength and conditioning at full training capacity.
Worpel had his reconstruction in July and didn't return to full fitness training unitl after Xmas, only started sim training in January and he was a couple of weeks ahead of schedule so hopefully Max can heal quickly and have no complications.
As the article says, "hopeful" of R6 or R7.

Re: Injury update
I would think that Max would not come back until somewhere around the bye. I’m far from an athlete and don’t have the training and rehab support the our Max has, it took me a good 6 months to get back to being close to normal. It’s a tough injury to get over, be silly to rush him back until he was close to 100%
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Re: Injury update
Shoulder is such an unstable joint, much more so than any other!
Between 6-12 months to get full range of motion and strength back - if at all!

Re: Injury update
Can anybody remember the nature of the shoulder injury that Roo got against Brisbane? How was that treated and how long did it take for him to come back?
I'm sure that it must have hampered him when he came back and I remember that he had strapping on his shoulder for several seasons but he seemed to recover eventually. I guess that I'm hoping that Max will be at least as good as that.

Re: Injury update
King is brittle
He will be serviceable on return, but it will be next year before he is at his best .

Re: Injury update
A shoulder reco means you’ve damaged 1 or more ligaments that hold the shoulder girdle together
Most likely rotator cuff - supraspinatus, Subscapularis
and Teres

Re: Injury update
My biggest fear is King becomes a liability due to constant serious injury, Max and Ben look incredibly fragile and have already lost so much footy due to injury in their relatively short careers.mr six o'clock wrote: ↑Sat 04 Feb 2023 10:30pm King is brittle

Re: Injury update
Fear can take months to overcome Vort. Biggest fears longer. Best to ignore footy and this forum until confidence returns, say 2050. Good luck.

Re: Injury update
All depends on the level of damage. Some shoulder reconstructions are more complicated than others

Re: Injury update
Yeah, but you don't do a shoulder reco just to repair rotator cuff tendons, you do it because you've taken out the Glenoid rim and one or both inferior glenohumeral ligaments or torn the capsule....the rotator cuff is repaired or re attached also, but that's not why you do a reco....when you lose the glenoid rim, you are 80-90% chance of re dislocating. Post reco - you're actually less chance to dislocate than the original joint.
But , and this is the concern for Max, you tend to be a little limited in the Range of Motion, and Max gets his arms way up high and marks at the highest point, so that will be interesting to see how he copes.
If prefer to see him come back at a true CHF position where he can use his run and only have one opponent so his arms aren't being chopped from behind.

Re: Injury update
Max doesn’t have the engine to play higher up the ground
He is a powerful athlete, endurance is not his strong point
Unlike Ben, he is more a run-jump-take a contested mark
Ben is more lead and take an uncontested mark
Another key difference is accuracy
Ben is a reliable set shot
Max is a confidence set shot therefore unreliable

Re: Injury update
Our injuries aren’t overly bad
No key players out for entire season (see Blues)
We’ll get them back early part of season
Hotttin available mid but Yr 1 don’t expect much there
All others - Jones, Gresham, Battle etc all close it back in full training

Re: Injury update
Without further angering the injury gods, it's not too bad. I feel for Hayes and Allison who have missed out on an excellent opportunity but it seems those spoils will fall to Sharman and Owens.
