Very sad..glad for Paddy.
Enormous loss to us.
We would win three more games if he'd stayed this year..IMO
Such a shame that Ratts and co. let him go. maybe it couldn't be helped.
NOT TO MENTION, HE COULD HAVE STOOD IN THE SQUARE IN KING'S ABSENCE - like an immobile battleship, beached but with all guns firing. Think Rex Hunt Sandringham.. sob..sob..alas..

Re: Paddy Ryder at Bombers
This is the club that he despised enough to leave to go to Port Adelaide. I admired his stance then as the club did unspeakable things to its players.

Maybe he hopes he can change the culture from within...Probably a bridge too far. That club has always been morally bankrupt.

Amon possibly intimidated by the standards Ross sets and we have plenty of his size/quality. He chose well. Bottom 2 no pressure same $. New coach within 18 months. Rinse, repeat. And they are so Indigenous friendly - now (see report and subsequent machinations). Safe gig.

Notice he has not gone to the Dons to play football he has gone as their Indigenous Player Development Manager.
The need for some people to feel they need to get a kick in to the club at every opportunity, even when it is completely unfounded, is really sad.

I was hoping the club would hire him as a ruck coach. Oh well, best of luck to him back with his first AFL club!

I imagine it must be irritating to say the least. I wonder who those people are. it annoys me.
So July last year, Paddy said he wanted to go on. He was fair dinkum. That's less than six weeks before the end of the season. Do share if you have any updates.
I suggest the Ratts admin didn't do enough to encourage him to stay.
As I also suggest they were too soft on letting a certain player - who had signed a one-year contract, fully knowing he would have limited senior time - walk out of his contract mid-season...They just let him go.
As a result, we had no back up when Carlisle went home.
You know what irritates me?
When supporters just go , 'yeah..on ya mate' ...'good bloke, fine servant'...''sure he can breach his contract, cos he's a good bloke'..
Uncompetitive.,.
We will NEVER win a flag like this.
I suspect that if Ratts hadn't resigned, and if Ross had taken over earlier, Paddy might stiull be with us. We would be significantly more competitive going into '23 considering the injuries to King, Hayes and others.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Re: Paddy Ryder at Bombers
Bombers are the home of Michael Long of the long walk; Sheedy has a lot of cred in regard to Indigenous promotion.
Also Can walk the corridors and boundaries knowing Hird gone, Thompson gone, most/all of drug cartel board gone.
Of course its Nicky that actually did that so very brave act in front of a hostile Vic Park crowd. Action not platitudes.
Paddy would have probably preferred the role at Moorabbin but its already well filled. Now, when he wants to be a ruck coach....

Did anyone know he was suddenly contemplating retiring?
The whole league knew he was a fine contributor and then Paddy was saying he wanted to go on and that he loved the Saints.
Then, in the gap between his statement and before the big news of Ross coming, as the season continued its downward spiral he either left or was tapped on the shoulder or a bit of both.
It could have hardly been an enticing prospect at that stage, to keep going. Once Ross came onboard and the new vibe arrived, he had already packed his bags.
I can’t guarantee he would have been good, but even at 60-70% of his best, we would still be better off this year with him still there IMO
As it stands, I think we have just about the worst forward set up in the league and we start by playing the best defense.
Who knows, nobody knows what will happen, but based on what we know at this point, that’s how it looks to me. Paddy would have been a fine foil for a full forward resting Ruck with Holla doing the majority of the ruck

Re: Paddy Ryder at Bombers
Seriously?
You’re creating a myth and trying to pass it off as fact
Every Club knew he was finished with us as a player
Every Club had the opportunity to list him in whatever capacity they felt he offered them
Not one felt what he could offer them in 2023 was worth a list spot
He was fantastic for us, but his playing career came to an end.
Accept it

Re: Paddy Ryder at Bombers
"My best footy, when I'm fit, is still pretty good. I'll just get through the next few weeks with the calf and re-evaluate everything. I'm looking forward to hopefully playing on," Ryder told AFL.com.au on Thursday."
"It hasn't been in the forefront of my mind but I'm sure over the next couple of weeks, now that I've got a little bit of time, there will be some conversations happening. I've enjoyed my time at the Saints. I've got some really close mates there and family in Bradley Hill. I'd rather not leave."

Maybe it’s time to move on from this club fiasco and come up with another?
It seems to be what you’ve mainly been doing lately.
What was your poster name prior to this one?

IMHO there’s far too many posters on here trying to heap crap on our Club for no reason other than it amuses them to do so
I count you amongst them

And the club made the decision to ask Ratts, not me..
I don’t think you read my post properly, but I don’t mind.
We need to be more competitive- and as I said, I suspected we ‘let one go’ but I fully conceded I might be wrong hand that I don’t know the facts, only how I perceive the situation from my perspective. It’s your prerogative to jump up and get personal, but it is t just IMO as I made it pretty clear.
But it is a funny old place to post, I do agree my friend.
