Until we get 100,000 members and consistent highly vocal crowds, or umpires become professional enough to not favour the home crowd on reflex, then its a cross we carry.
Be interesting if noise cancelling ear pieces were invented.
Thought our chaps were well disciplined despite umpire provocation at times.
Silvani Jr is tending towards the Ginnervan con approach, might come back to haunt him.
You’re right, but it’s a heavy cross and has cost us many games.
We got away with this one because of the Blues’ ineptitude in kicking. The Silvagni one was LOL and the McKay helicopter even better.
I don’t care when the umpire apologists say it’s never a factor. Of course it’s a factor in a close game. Shots at goal and whether they are converted is everything in an arm wrestle and yesterday was definitely that.
I agree that quite a few of the free kicks for Carlton in the first half, whilst marginal, were reasonable, Carlton certainly had the rub of the green yesterday.
Now that there are four field umpires there is far greater attention paid to defenders manhandling forwards, especially when the backmen are behind their opponent, as happened to both Wilkie and Battle yesterday.
My suggestion for the AFL statisticians is to provide a seperate record of free kicks paid in front of goals, because these are the ones that can have a major impact on the outcome of a game.
This can also help coaches and umpires to assess the validity of these decisions and take action accordingly.

Did we actually get a free kick in the second quarter?
First quarter 4-9
Second. 1=5
Third 4-2
Fourth. 5-4
Total 14-20
It’s the inconsistency
The Higgins non free was outrageous, clearly high the umpire looking straight at it
Based on the frees to the Carl forwards I look forward to Max King picking up 3 or 4 frees a game….. if there is any consistency

Sometimes I think I am punch drunk from so many unfair decisions over time. Umpiring and MRO.
Some clubs' supporters simply do not tolerate adverse umpiring decisions eg pies, blues, bombers, west coast, adelaide. We seem comparatively accepting. Grumbling boos, frustrated name calling not whole of crowd wrath delivery.
Still not sure whether 50/50s should be paid to either side.Has to be 51%?
The "holding " threshold for backs is considerably lower than forwards/mids it seems to me, ie new rule. A couple Curnow got were charity Fr Bob would have been proud of.
But it comes under the general heading of the cost of us doing business.

Overall umpiring has been very good this year, except for a 15 minute patch in the Freo game, and the first half of this week.
Consistency and predictability is key. Players need to know where the line is.
Glad you think so /hasumpstuffedup (an ex umpire) does not agree

Motlop suspended for his clearly dangerous tackle
No free kick to StKilda
The MRO is clearly wrong
I heard the commentator suggest Howard was trying to milk a free kick
Lucky the umpire wasn’t silly enough to fall for Howard’s obvious ploy

Carlton in the first half as many frees as St Kilda for the whole match.
During the third quarter the umps realised that they were wasting their time and integrity helping Carlton.

As ex-president Peter Summers said:

stuff the umpires..are we the only team that gets the wrong end of the pineapple?
We have a good team and if we make it to a flag it will be because we have a good team despite the umpires
I used to bag the umps , looking for scapegoats etc . then I started to focus on the team and its attributes . it made watching the game a whole lot better for me.
I feel sorry for the likes of Curly et al ,,concentrating on the wrong thing.
